A week flew by faster than Nat had expected. Before long, he was boarding a plane with his friends. After tearful farewells with the women, the men were ready to hit the road back to New York, and resume working out.
Nat had much to do as he was leaving in two days for Paris. On the plane, both his friends fell asleep. The first baseman couldn’t rest. When he arrived back in New York, he’d face an unpleasant task—telling Nicki the truth about his trip to Paris and Rome. He ran scenario after scenario through his mind, but none rang true. Except the one where she slapped him across the face and stalked out of the room.
