Knox leaned toward his laptop monitor, chatting with his daughter Penny over video in his room at the Majestic Hotel. His time with her was usually the highlight of his day.
She looked so much like him with her coppery red hair, although she had her grandmother’s bright blue eyes. Today, she wore a sparkly mermaid costume he’d sent to her.
At a break in her chatter about mermaids, he asked, “Are you excited about flying to join me on Crown Island soon?”
Penny looked uncertain. “With Grammy and Pops, too?”
“Of course. They’ll live with us until we find them a house close enough so we can walk to visit.”
Again, he wished his offer on the old house Junie bought had been accepted, but he was happy for her now. He had enjoyed talking to her a few days ago at the fireworks show on the beach
