CHAPTER 1 – Eden Café

877 Words
Felipe District, known as where Expert Mercenaries lives, The Boss in Business and The Giver of Jobs. A very busy place, every store is full of local customers and from other district visiting. Here, transaction from far away place happens, merchants sell or barter their goods and the unemployed finds work here. I’m one of the workers here although the economy here is booming if you don’t know how to run a business and stay as a waitress who has multiple part-time jobs plus a sick mother and twin siblings like ‘me’…you will never get out of poverty! I’m a dropout in College, nothing to be proud of but if I didn’t…who will gonna support our finances. My father is already dead, my mother is bedridden and a twins in their 10s. So, I have no choice but to be a breadwinner to my family. And, besides if I don’t go to School…all I need is to self-study! Not to boast, but I’m smart and I shouldn’t waste it, I can use my OD and spend time in a public library. A honk was heard while off my way to work. “Hey! Get out of the way!” What I hate in this district is that they have terrible management in traffic, but can’t blame them cause there are too many people they have no time to fix the road but if though, surely they will lose a big money. And, a terrible place to cause an accident because the hit will never finish you off immediately due to the crowd and the slow traffic, you still have to suffer from injuries before you isekai or worst you got hit but the hope to isekai didn’t happen because you’re still alive. “Meh. Lol.” I’m thinking about this again! Oppose mind…Oppose. The reason that I’m in denial when discussing Isekai is that– I heard a Philosopher once said, ‘A greedy person cannot get what he/she wants.’ and a famous co-weeb best advice is, ‘Play hard to get.’. I believe that. I continued on my way. Unfortunately, I’m already late from work cause you know I have to take care of my siblings and that’s why I’m running right now as fast as I can. I have arrived. “Good morning, I have arrived! I’m sorry I’m late!” “As usual, I got used to it. Now, Go change some apron!” she is displeased yet not showing it, just a smile plastered on her face. By the way, she is my manager and also one of my mother’s friends. Obviously, she knows about my condition that is why she is easy on me. And, I’m not going to take advantage of it instead I should be thankful that I have this job. I will be a waitress for today and tomorrow is another job from a different employer. This is Eden Cafe but like a hotel with small rooms and there are tables too, where customers stay if only in one-two hours What I like about this café is that it’s full of novels, manga, anime, and comics yet you have to order from the menu first before you read some of the books or rent a small room for hours but if me? I only need to take permission from my Manager to take home some novels since I can not read them at work and luckily, she agrees if I return them afterward…she is kind despite her name is Karen. Her kindness is what keeps me from not being fired from being late. Ironically, the café’s name is Eden but it’s full of dead trees that are processed as paper haha! I’m done changing, I head to the counter where Karen is. “Give this order to room 17.” Karen handed me the tray and gave this to room 17. For a while, I go back and forth giving and taking orders from the customers like a busy bee. Then, the day passed and it is already night still, customers are in and out. Some of them, spend the night in those rooms since I’m only on a day shift, someone will take my turn on the night shift. I’ll be off to work till just 2 hours. “Room 17.” Again? This lad sure is rich. I get the tray from Karen and handed it to Room 17. After that, while on my way to the counter. For just a quick look, I notice a novel title from the table of a man in his–I think the mid-30s, that I’m not familiar with it. ‘Sacrilegious Love’ I was in doubt, I have read all the novels here so why is that here? Did Karen order this? But, the arrival of the new novel is still next week! “Umm…” the man noticed me, I must have disturbed him from reading but the book is not opened. “Oh! I’m sorry. Enjoy your reading, Sir!” I was about to leave and let him continue his reading but… “Wait! Err…you see.” “Yes?” I smiled while asking. “I have been here since this morning.” the man continued.
