AZRAEL
I never pay peculiar attention to people on road more than needed while driving.
Today, it was different, the bubble I have secured myself seems to be infiltrating with these insignificant things. I could hear them, reel my gaze to individual’s different activities, casually strolling around, moving in vehicles- everyone in their own world.
Generally, I stay for observing the night. Tonight, I needed it more than anything, to allow free flow of my thoughts.
Changing the destination immediately, I have parked my car in the driveway of my office. In daze I skipped to the rooftop. The view from thirty sixth floor was nothing new but like in numerous times I was not looking at people or tall buildings.
My gaze was uplifted to the sky, to permit the freedom of cool breeze on my face. Nothing in particular was making a single sense, as all the whirling thoughts would land on one name. Adam.
In my life, I have never been wavered by someone’s presence. So it was natural, I don’t know what to do with these swirl of newest emotions. Emotions- the word feels foreign to my own ears. Neither I had much of exploration to experience them nor I had time from my relentless work.
So, why now?
Staying there for long, I concluded to let the things have their own natural flow. I’d not chase him nor would I avoid any chance to meet him. Until, I’m certain to take the charge with whatever I was feeling for him.
He was unplanned in my life then I want to wait for some driving force to redirect my path with his.

A sharp migraine was filtering my brain, sighing I gulp down another glass of water. My day so far was going according to schedule but not my mood. It was long, since I have spent sleepless nights due to thinking. Thinking about the green brown eyed man, constantly. I didn’t reach for any sort of conclusion yet and pending the matter further was taking a toll on my both physical and mental health.
And to believe, we have interacted for only couple of hours.
I forced myself to not interrupt my work, just few more hours, then I can rest. Hopefully my heart would be equally tired. What the heck I’m saying? My blur of thoughts gets intervened with someone entering my cabin. Without prior knocking.
I inwardly sigh knowing the person already. Another headache to deal with.
“Hey hotty, miss me?” Dimitri opens his arm, smiling widely enough to ache his jaw.
He couldn't have better timing to get back from his holidays?
I barely shift my gaze, flicking with my left wrist, “Get out if you have entered without knocking, only for mockery,”
As expected he remains unaffected, plopping down in the seat, “Is this the way to welcome your only best friend?”
Thumbing through the papers, “I didn’t ask you to be,”
Knowing I absolutely dislike the loud unnecessary noises in working hours, He snorts loudly, “Of course you’d only open your mouth to retort someone. Well, you can make use of your mouth for variety of reasons, you know…”
Interrupting his vile talks, I steeple my fingers on the desk, “Does your wife is aware of your a******y behind her back. Or I could do the honors.”
He glares at me, “Barstado, just because you are going to die as single doesn’t mean you’d take me to the grave as well,”
“And what are the basis of your presumptions that I’d remain single?”
He opens his mouth then comically his eyes widens, “No way, don’t tell me. You…”
“I didn’t say anything. Once again you are presuming on your own,” I point my pen at him.
His enthusiasm deflates, actually not doubting my response, “Oh, here I was mentally deciding the color of my suit as your best man,”
I flick my wrist, “Leave, you are wasting my time,”
Unsurprisingly he doesn’t listen, “And you are wasting that hot body of yours, decent sized appendage-
That slightly offends me. Just to rile him up, I probe, “How do you know it’s decent sized? Are you sure you didn’t married the wrong gender.”
He dismisses my accusation, squinting his eyes, “You seem much interested to ruin my married life. Also, I know for the fact- you are much smaller than me,”
I had enough of him for the day so I ignore him. Instead of taking the clue, he childishly rounds the desk, almost sitting on my lap he tugs at belt loop of my pants. I clutch his wandering wrist, ready to shove him.
“If not then, show me. Let’s have an open competition right here!”
I shook my head, holding his flailing hands, “Are you out of your mind? Wait, don’t answer the obvious.”
“Sir-
We both snap our gaze at befuddled state of Mrs. Sherry, her mouth hung open taking in our position.
Dimitri recovers quickly standing, uselessly adjusting his clothes, “It’s not like what you are seeing. One second…it’s the exact sentence one uses to cover up their filthy acts. Not that we’re involved.”
Leave it to him for morphing any situation to wreck any normal people’s senses.
He further explains, “I was just measuring-
I cut him off, politely asking the poor lady, “Mrs. Sherry can you please excuse us for couple of minutes if the matter isn’t urgent.”
She stutters, “Of course Sir,”
Dimitri turns sharply, determinately squinting his eyes, “Spill the beans or I wouldn’t mind stirring interesting gossip around about their upright boss,”
Idiota.
Concentrating back on my work, I give a quick recap of the luncheon. My mind again astray to Adam, beautiful, sweet man.
He squeals unmanly pumping his fist in air, “I knew it, there was something weird about this day my left eye was twitching since morning. It could have been due to Lauren accidently hitting me in her sleep. But that’s beside the point. So what are you going to do next?”
“Nothing,”
He exaggeratedly give a disbelieving look, jerking his arm at few accolades in the corner. “What the hell is wrong with the mentality of panel, to declare you as best strategist consequently for years? I was right, Awards are merely for showbiz, and there is nothing valuably truth about it.”
I retort in normal voice, “Just because you didn’t receive any, it doesn’t mean-
“Anyways, he drags the word, “are you serious about doing nothing? Dude, don’t give that corpse expression.”
I don’t change whatever expression my face was showing. He groans loudly, “Do you know I had nightmares of this expression, when I have hardly known you in earlier years?”
“Glad to impress you then,”
He sighs in exasperation saving both of us, walking out of the cabin, “Poor Adam, what is he getting himself with you?”
I’m afraid, his observation might be right.
Before stepping out, he turns to face me, “Azrael, it’s not everyday fate has enlightened your life. Better don’t sit idle and let the precious gift slip from your fingers. Just because you are not prepared for it.”
This is one of the many reasons, I tolerate his hell childish, whimsical nature. Whether being Coo of my company or my best friend- like he calls himself- Dimitri never fails to present the truth with pinch of salt.
Again, he was right. I wasn’t prepared for any demanding shift in my life. Adam was exactly that.
