Ignacio pov "What the hell do you want, Marisol?" I rolled my eyes at her, as she walked in and closed the door, not bothering to hide my disdain. She got scared and her eyes scanned the room desperately as if searching for an escape route. "Ignacio, please.. we need to talk," she whispered as her voice began to tremble. My expression remained unchanged after her response, what was there to talk about? "What do you want, Marisol?" I leaned back in my chair. You're pushing your luck. Marisol's eyes welled up with tears, but I didn't flinch. Her tears do farce me i was done with her lies. She took a step closer, extending her hands towards me but I raised a hand, halting her. "Don't even think about touching me," I warned. "You've lost that privilege, Now, what is it that you want?" "Ignacio, I know I made a mistake. A terrible, terrible mistake. But please, you have to listen to me. I love you, and I don't want to lose you." She pleaded I couldn't help but chuckle at the audacity of her words like she truly believed she hadn't lost me yet. "You've already lost me," I assured her. "No please don't say that Ignacio" she starts to beg. "I know I hurt you, and I'm so sorry. But please, can't we just...try to work through this? I'll do anything, Ignacio. Anything." "Anything?" I repeated, what could she possibly do to make up for what she'd done? "Yes, anything. Just please, don't leave me." She replied anxiously like she was winning my attention. I chuckled again, couldn't help but suppress my strong willingness to let out a loud mocking laugh "Too late for that, Marisol." I replied coldly. Marisol took a step closer, once again extending her hands. "Ignacio, please. Just listen to me. I know I messed up, but I promise to make it right. I'll do whatever it takes." "Whatever it takes?" I repeated. "You think you can just waltz in here and expect me to forgive you? After what you did?" Marisol's eyes dropped, and her voice began to crack slowly as she spoke. "I know I don't deserve it. But please, Ignacio. I'm begging you. Don't give up on me." I sighed, my face softening slightly. But only for a moment. "Marisol, you're not even sorry for what you did. You're just sorry you got caught." "That's not true, Ignacio. I am sorry. I'm so sorry." She said continuously. "Save it, Marisol. " I proclaimed . "Ignacio, please. Just give me another chance. I promise I won't let you down again." She kept repeating her words and I was only getting even more disgusted. "You're not even capable of keeping that promise, Marisol." I fired " I shall send you the divorce paper soon." "Divorce?" she repeated. "Yes, divorce. I think it's time we ended this farce of a marriage, don't you?" I asked. Marisol's face crumpled, she couldn't help but move closer to me. "Ignacio, please...don't do this. We can work through our problems, I promise." "Work through our problems? You mean, like how you worked through it with my best friend?" I almost screamed out which made Marisol flinched. "Ignacio, I...I was weak, okay? I made a mistake. But I love you, and I want to make it right." She pleaded. "Ignacio, please...have mercy." Did I just hear what she said right "Mercy? Do you want mercy? You should have thought of that before you cheated on me." I stood up. "I'll have my lawyer send over the divorce papers soon. Don't bother contesting it. You'll only end up wasting your time and money." After what seemed like forever, she eventually stood up and left. ....... As I nursed my whiskey, I was completely lost in thought, when Alfredo slid onto the stool beside me. "Hey, amigo," he said, signaling the bartender for a drink. I turned to him, shocked to see him "What brings you here?" Alfredo grinned. "Just thought I'd drop by and see how my favorite divorcee is doing." He winked at me and I let out a tiny smirk. "You're a real comedian, Alfredo," I said dryly. Alfredo chuckled amusingly as he spoke, "Hey, someone's got to keep you smiling." His eyes then turned serious, "So, why didn't you tell me you suspected Rodrigo was screwing your wife?" I shrugged. "I don't know. I guess I didn't want to believe it." Alfredo smashed his hands on the table. "That guy's always been a snake. I'm surprised he didn't try to screw your sister too." I laughed at his outburst. "You don't like him, do you?" Alfredo leaned in. "Let's just say I've never trusted him. He's always been a bit too smooth, a bit too perfect. And now, it turns out he's been screwing your wife behind your back." I clenched my jaw, feeling a surge of anger at Alfredo's words. "Yeah, well, that's water under the bridge now." Alfredo shook his head in agreement. "Yeah, I guess it is. But still, I'm surprised you didn't see it coming. You're usually a pretty sharp guy." I shrugged. "I guess I just didn't want to see it. I didn't want to imagine that my best friend and my wife could betray me like that." Alfredo put a hand on my shoulder. "Hey, amigo, don't beat yourself up over it. You're better off without them." I took a sip of my whiskey. "Yeah, I guess you're right. You know, it's funny. I had a one-night stand a few days ago. A woman who...who got under my skin." Alfredo raised an eyebrow. "Really? What happened?" I shook my head. "It's just...I keep thinking about her. And then, guess who shows up in my office today for a job interview?" Alfredo's eyes lit up. "The mystery woman?" "The one and only. And you know what's even more interesting?" I whispered "What?"Alfredo asked. "She played dumb. Like she had no idea who I was or what had happened between us." I uttered as I took another sip of whiskey. Alfredo burst out laughing. "That's priceless! What did you do?" I shrugged. "I played along. But it's driving me crazy. I want to know why she's pretending like that." Alfredo grinned. "Ah, amigo, this is where it gets interesting. You have to hire her." "What? Why?" I asked "Because, my friend, you need to see how long she'll keep up this charade. And who knows, maybe she's not just playing dumb. Maybe she's trying to protect herself." Alfredo made a valid point "Hmm really. " I exclaimed. "Maybe she thinks that if you know about your little night together, you won't hire her. Maybe she thinks you'll think she's a w***e or something." Alfredo explained. It was possible. Maybe she was just trying to protect herself. "Come on, amigo. Hire her. It'll be fun. And who knows, maybe you'll even get a repeat performance." He teased. As funny as it sounds a part of me was tempted. Very tempted.
