Chapter Two

1124 Words
Greg turned to face me, he saw me coming and stopped walking. I did not wait another second when I questioned him angrily. "What is the meaning of what you just did? You came home at almost midnight. I am the one who is meant to be angry and asking questions. Instead of you apologizing for making me worry, you are being petty" I said angrily, my voice loud enough for Mira to understand her parents were fighting. Greg drops his bag and replied, " I'm being petty? You are the one who is being petty. You are always nagging and complaining about everything." " So I am supposed to welcome you with loving arms? After making me worry for hours, you walked in casually, you did not respond to my greeting, and you expect me to welcome you lovingly? " He became silent. I have known my husband to be a loving and faithful husband ever since we got married. ************** WRITER'S POV When Sophie first met Greg, he possessed all she ever wanted in a man. He's very rich, brilliant, hardworking and, to crown it all, Greg is a handsome man. They meet coincidentally with Sophie at a restaurant during lunch. He was seated quietly, busy with his phone, waiting for his order to arrive at his table. Sophie told Kelly to go scan the place for a suitable corner for them to sit while she makes the order. Sophie did not want to start their usual silly argument with her, so she obliged, and later she found a corner not far from where he (Greg) was seated. He did not notice nor respond when Kelly greeted him and walked past him. “Whatever he's doing on his phone must really be important,” she grinned. At a moment, he raised his head and their eyes made contact. Her heart raced immediately when she noticed his gaze was still fixed on her, so she quickly faced elsewhere. Stylishly, she tried to check if he was still looking at her and yes, he didn't seem to give up looking at her. This made her feel very uncomfortable and for a moment Kelly was scared. Why would a stranger keep staring at her like that? Kelly knew she did not have the boldness to talk to him or tell him to stop staring at her. “ Where are you Sophie?” she muttered silently with her head bowed, close to the table before her. Not long after, she could hear the footsteps of someone approaching where she was seated. And all she could think of was Sophie. “It must be Sophie coming with our food.” Her guts told her. Unfortunately, Kelly was disappointed when she raised her head, and was about to accuse Kelly for forcing her to come to the restaurant at the first instant, when she saw the same man that had been staring, now in front of her. Asking if he could sit with her. Stylishly, she granted his wish and in no time they started relating as best friends, who lost contact for years and finally got to see each other again. The feeling was mutual. She could feel it. His witty sense of humor was incomparable, and she couldn't help but laugh out loud whenever he threw a joke at her. She got to know a few things about him, including his name, what he does for a living, his family and wealth. She had just met the most charming man. Greg had this captivating smile and sparkling eyes that drew her in. Their conversation flowed effortlessly, and she was awed by his kind heart and genuine interest in getting to know her. What struck her and more fascinating most was his confidence and authenticity, he was unapologetically himself, and it was incredibly refreshing. His order came not long after Sophie came with theirs. Sophie was surprised to see someone else had occupied her seat. Kelly quickly got a seat for her, and made the introduction. Sophie doesn't seem to like what Kelly did. Kelly made sure the remaining minutes that were spent at the restaurant were refreshing and lively enough, before they said their goodbyes and departed. ************** But for the past two months, he has changed drastically, and I still can't answer the question of what has brought this change. *Where were you? I asked, using the opportunity of him being quiet. I continued,“ Because you are always blaming your coming late to the traffic." " I don't answer to you okay? I can come home whenever I like." He said bluntly, leaving me hurt and disappointed. " Really?" I asked sarcastically. And for the second time, he did not respond. " What has come over you? Since when did you become cold-hearted to your family? You usually talk to me with love and respect. Why have you changed Greg?" I asked tearfully, my voice shaking. He did not say anything. This is the third time he has not responded to what I have said. For almost 2 minutes, the living room was silent as that of a graveyard. I break the silence and move closer. " Fine. Are you hungry? I can warm your food quickly" " Damn you and your food." He shouted and started walking away. His words hit me hard. I must have caused this. Greg has never for once rejected my food. " Aren't you going to tuck Mira in bed? She is waiting for us," I said. " I am tired, as you can see. You have hands, tuck her in yourself. Besides, she is no longer a baby. She needs to learn how to sleep by herself " he said while walking away. " You are so irritating and annoying, I wish I had never met you" I yelled angrily. He stopped and turned. " What did you just say?" He asked, walking towards me. "I said you are irritating and annoying, I wish I had never met you", I repeated with my trembling voice, and teary eyes. "Don't push me, Kelly, I am warning you. You are seriously getting on my nerves. Don't make me do something I will regret." He warned, his voice harsh. Just like before, I felt bold and fearless again. "Or what? What are you going to do? Hit me just like you learned from your father?" I said. Greg rushed towards me and slapped me hard. He pushed me on the couch and held my neck "Greg! Greg, please stop it, you are hurting me!!" I screamed in pain and struggled to breathe. He continued pressing my neck. I soon felt life being squeezed out of me as I started coughing…
