Episode 14 The campus was buzzing with excitement and nervous energy. It was nearly the end of the semester, and students were busy with projects, exams, and plans for the holidays. Grace walked across the courtyard, her books clutched tightly to her chest. She felt lighter today, the weight of the scandal from last week finally lifting. But as she approached the library, she noticed a familiar figure standing outside—Professor Adele, one of the lecturers known for her stern demeanor and keen observation. “Grace,” the professor called softly. “Can we talk?” Grace frowned. Oh no… did I miss an assignment? “Of course, Professor,” she replied, following her into a quiet hallway. ⸻ Inside, Professor Adele’s expression was serious but not harsh. “I wanted to speak to you about something important,” she began. Grace’s heart pounded. “Okay… what is it?” The professor held out a folder. “These are documents I found while reviewing some records for the campus project archives.” Grace took the folder carefully. Inside were photographs, letters, and old journals from previous students. One of the letters caught her attention immediately—it mentioned a scholarship, a transfer, and a secret mentorship program she had never heard of. “Professor… what is this?” she asked. “It’s a record of a program that selected students with exceptional promise,” Professor Adele explained. “And you’ve been chosen.” Grace’s eyes widened. “Chosen? Chosen for what?” The professor smiled softly. “To participate in a leadership initiative, Grace. It’s an opportunity to study abroad next semester, gain internships, and represent our campus in various competitions.” Grace’s mouth went dry. This… this is incredible. But before she could react further, her phone buzzed. She looked down. It was a text from John: John: Grace… are you free? I need to see you. Grace hesitated. Could this be related? She didn’t know, but her curiosity got the better of her. ⸻ She met John at their favorite mango tree. “John… something’s happened,” she said breathlessly. He looked concerned immediately. “What is it?” Grace handed him the folder. “I was just chosen for a special program—study abroad, leadership initiatives… I didn’t even know this existed until today.” John’s eyes lit up. “Grace… that’s amazing!” He took her hands in his. “This is the opportunity of a lifetime!” Grace smiled but hesitated. “It’s incredible… but it’s also scary. I’ll be away for months. What about us?” John’s expression softened. “Grace, I knew this day might come. But if this is what you want—what you’ve worked so hard for—I’ll support you. No matter what.” Grace felt tears prick her eyes. She had expected worry, maybe even tension, but instead John’s words were filled with unwavering support. ⸻ Over the next few days, Grace prepared for the program. She studied harder, attended workshops, and submitted her papers for review. John stayed by her side, helping her stay focused, encouraging her, and even packing small gifts and letters to send abroad. Despite the excitement, rumors started to spread again—this time about Grace leaving the campus and the relationship being tested by distance. One afternoon, Grace confronted her friend Anita. “Anita… do you think John will wait for me?” she asked nervously. Anita smiled reassuringly. “Grace… if he really cares about you, he won’t just wait. He’ll be with you in every way he can.” Grace nodded slowly. I hope that’s true… ⸻ The day before her departure, John took her to the campus garden. Lanterns hung once again, recreating their first memorable evening. “I wanted to remind you of something,” he said softly, holding her hand. Grace’s eyes were filled with emotion. “What is it?” “I’m not going anywhere,” John said firmly. “Distance won’t change how I feel about you. This is just a chapter… not the end of our story.” Grace smiled, feeling a warmth she had never felt before. “I don’t want to leave… but I need to take this opportunity.” “I know,” he said. “And I’m proud of you. Always.” ⸻ As the sun set, casting golden hues across the campus, Grace and John embraced tightly. They held each other, silently promising to stay connected, to trust each other, and to continue building their love despite the miles that would soon separate them. That night, Grace packed her bags with anticipation and nervous excitement. She realized that opportunities like this didn’t come often—but neither did a love like hers with John. As she drifted to sleep, she whispered softly: No matter where I go, he’s with me… in my heart.
