Episode 1
The morning sun rose gently over Greenfield University, spreading golden light across the wide campus. Students hurried along the pathways, some laughing in groups, others walking alone with headphones in their ears. The air was cool and fresh, carrying the scent of grass and coffee from nearby cafés.
Grace adjusted her bag as she walked quickly toward her lecture hall. Her mind was far away, replaying the essay she had submitted earlier that morning.
“Maybe I should have added more examples…” she whispered to herself.
Lost in thought, she didn’t notice the basketball rolling toward her.
Thud!
It hit her foot lightly, causing her to stumble forward.
“Oh!” she gasped, catching herself before falling.
“Hey! I’m so sorry!” a voice called out.
Grace looked up and saw a tall young man running toward her. He wore a sleeveless jersey, his hair slightly messy, and a bright smile spread across his face.
“I didn’t mean to scare you,” he said, picking up the ball.
Grace straightened herself quickly. “It’s okay. I just wasn’t paying attention.”
He chuckled. “Still, I almost caused an accident. I should apologize properly.”
She smiled faintly. “Apology accepted.”
He extended his hand. “I’m John.”
Grace hesitated for a second before shaking it. “Grace.”
“Grace…” he repeated, smiling. “That suits you.”
She felt a slight blush but looked away quickly. “Thank you.”
There was a brief silence, but it didn’t feel awkward. Instead, it felt… new.
“So, are you new here?” John asked.
“No,” Grace replied. “Second year. Literature.”
“Nice. I’m in engineering, third year,” he said. “I usually practice here in the mornings. I promise I don’t normally attack people with basketballs.”
Grace laughed softly. “Good to know.”
John smiled wider. “You seem like someone who thinks a lot.”
She raised an eyebrow. “Is that a bad thing?”
“Not at all,” he said. “Just means you see things differently.”
Grace found herself relaxing. There was something easy about talking to him, something that made her forget her earlier worries.
“I should get to class,” she said after a moment.
“Yeah, me too,” John replied. Then he added, “Maybe I’ll see you around?”
“Maybe,” she said with a small smile.
As she walked away, Grace felt something unfamiliar—a light, warm feeling in her chest.
⸻
The days that followed were strangely different.
Grace found herself glancing toward the basketball court whenever she passed by. And every time she saw John, her heart gave a small, unexpected jump.
One afternoon, she sat under a mango tree reading quietly when she heard a familiar voice.
“Hey… Grace, right?”
She looked up.
John stood there, smiling.
“Hi,” she said.
“Mind if I sit?”
She nodded. “Sure.”
He sat beside her, leaning back comfortably. “You always read out here?”
“Sometimes. It’s peaceful,” she said.
John nodded. “I like it here too. It helps clear my head.”
“From basketball?” she teased.
He laughed. “Among other things.”
They talked for a while—about classes, campus life, random little things. The conversation flowed naturally, like they had known each other longer than just a few days.
John glanced at her book. “What are you reading?”
“Pride and Prejudice,” she said.
He nodded slowly. “I’ve heard of it. Is it good?”
Grace smiled. “Very. It’s about love… misunderstandings… growth.”
John looked thoughtful. “Sounds complicated.”
“It is,” she said. “But that’s what makes it real.”
He smiled. “Maybe you can explain it to me someday.”
Grace laughed softly. “Maybe.”
⸻
As the sun began to set, casting a warm orange glow, they realized how much time had passed.
“I should go,” Grace said.
“Yeah,” John replied. “Me too.”
There was a pause.
“See you tomorrow?” he asked.
Grace hesitated slightly, then nodded.
“See you.”

That night, Grace lay in bed staring at the ceiling.
She didn’t know why she kept thinking about him.
Maybe it was his smile.
Maybe it was how easy it felt to talk to him.
Or maybe it was something deeper she couldn’t explain yet.
Whatever it was…
She knew one thing.
Something had started.
And it was only the beginning.
