Great! I might actually develop a heart condition if I stayed here any longer. I looked up to see the very b***h from hell, Reign, boldly displayed on the screen, reclining on a couch, her perfectly manicured fingers holding a wine glass like she owned the place.
The action was supposed to look elegant and non threatening with effortless grace, but it just reminded me of the image of a cobra curled around its victim as it squeezed the life out its unfortunate prey.
Her perfectly plucked brows were now marred with a frown.
My brows furrowed in kind, my eye balls instinctively rolling in annoyance. What an annoying fly.
"It seems your stinky mouth hadn't changed a bit since the last time we met, you know when you fled, and I'm certainly not talking about that time you were disowned- oops, forgive me for my lapse, I didn't mean to bring that up. But then, it certainly isn't a lie, although I guess it's a bit of an oversight to say we met... you were disowned over the phone, no? Now that must hurt." She was smiling softly now, her cold gaze scouring my features, assessing for results—a sign of the pain her words aimed to cause me.
I gritted my teeth but my gaze only grew colder, I stopped my fists from instinctively clenching, that would only give away how much her words actually stung.
That was her aim. To hurt me.
"Well nice to know you are still the same vindictive b***h, I guess some things never change."
Her lips pursed, her smile looking tight for a brief second but she recovered brilliantly, she looked unamused, her lips parted softly like the very action expended too much energy than she cared to waste. With a sigh full of pity, she pressed on. "What a potty mouth you have on you, I wanted to do this the easy way but you did ask for some excitement. It'd be a disservice for me not to oblige. Do enjoy the show I painstakingly arranged just for you, don't worry I'll make sure you don't get "bored". With that, her thumb daintily found their way to the TV remote's button, her finger hovering over it like the ghost of Christmas past.
Well that last bit was certainly full of threats.
What a piece of work, it'd seem Reign had somehow upgraded in bitchiness and pretentiousness if that was even possible. But I wasn't going to let her have the last word.
"Hey Reign, are you done? I don't really care what you have to say because it's no news you are sick and are in urgent need of treatment, I understand that you must be going through a lot right now, so I won't hold you accountable for this as I'm quite busy and have no time to accompany you in your games so here's what I'm going to do... I'm going to let myself off this property and find my way back to my own home. My advice to you is to get yourself a therapist or a new one if you already have one, I don't mean to presume, I mean you do you but please keep me out of your s**t. When I bade you farewell on YOUR parents' home, I meant it, I'm too old to keep playing these games with you, have fun by yourself or better still spend some of that money of yours on tailoring yourself a new personality." With that I made to cut the call.
"Wait! Raine!!! Don't you dare cut me off, who do you think you are? You don't know who the hell you are dealing with. I tried to do this the easy way but you just had to go and infuriate me. I did have someone run a background check on you you know." I wasn't surprised she had someone investigate me, well it was Reign, I sort of expected it, it'd actually be downright insulting if she didn't. I also had to admit, I was quite happy I had managed to ruffle some feathers, make her lose her pretentious calmness. This was the Reign I was used to, the callous hearted fake b***h, not the Mitchell Obama version she had been trying so hard to portray. I heard a sound like the turning of a page on the other end then a low chuckle from Reign, "ha, I can see why you feel so proud, honestly, I'm quite impressed you were able to do this all on your own but then again you were always like a cockroach, never staying dead." She gave a derisive snort of disgust meant to crumble my self-esteem but my only response to her taunt was an eye roll, she was being such a basic b***h but I kept my peace, I was sure there was more coming.
And true that, she continued with her lines. "A pity, truly... a pity that no matter what you do, or how hard you work, you will always remain a worm beneath my feet, vermin I can step on and crush anytime, any day, whenever I want to, and you won't be able to make so much as a squeak about it." She sighed resignedly like she felt genuine pity, I guess we were back with the Mitchell Obama performance. "Darling, a word is all I need to reduce everything you've built all these years to rubble, but to demonstrate I guess I have to make a move... You know, just to bring you up to speed, I won't want you having other thoughts now, would I?" Then the tv screen went blank.
I frowned in disgust at her fake tone, did she think she was in some billionaire/mafia s**t type drama? Before I could call her back and tell her to shove that stick up her tight prissy ass down her throat before she disgusts me to death, a call interrupted me, I frowned, lifting the phone by the bedside I recognized as mine to face level.
My frown grew tighter when I saw it was Diane, I instantly had an ominous feeling, remembering Reign's last words, she couldn't- could she?
Only one way to find out, I answered and waited for Diane to speak, "Raine, oh my God, thank God you're okay, I've been worried sick, I've been trying to reach you for days now and-"
Wait, what did she just say? Days?
