26 And waited. Another shot was fired, but it wasn’t aimed at them. Ian didn’t think he could stay kneeling much longer before his legs gave way. The pain that pulsed through them was excruciating. He held silent but longed to fall over with a groan. More rounds of fire, but none directed at them. “What’s going on?” Gwen whispered. “Help me up,” Ian said. “I think the base is under attack.” They all scrambled to stand and darted out of the beam of light. When no one ordered them to stop, Ian motioned for them to follow along the wall until they could get around to the other side. They would have to proceed with caution, since he was pretty sure the attackers would have come from that side as well.
