THE DETECTIVES DREW themselves aside and made room for the doctor to take a closer look at the gruesome scene. Yet, the head attached to the hydrant by its own hair mesmerized everyone and they warily kept stealing glances back at it.
All of them had seen their share of bodies during their career, yet it was unnerving to watch those eerie faded violet eyes. They seemed to look straight through them and more than one detective shuddered.
As the fog rolled in, the detectives had the unsettling impression they were part of a horror-movie set. They kept looking around, wary of what might have lurked in the dark of the forest.
