In his rush, he had forgotten to hold the door and it had closed with a resonant bang. He had thought about having it fixed several times, but it hadn’t become a priority for him yet. Now, he reconsidered the matter and made a note in his mind to call the maintenance guy the following day early in the morning. As if nothing had happened, McNamara glanced at the people in the squad room and threw over the shoulder, to everyone and no one in particular, “I’m on my cellular phone, if you have an emergency.” He didn’t expect an answer, but continued towards the exit and mumbled to himself, ‘
