"Nika?" Unable to hide my surprise, I exclaimed spontaneously. The woman chuckled again. She seemed satisfied seeing my shocked expression.
"Didn't expect to run into me here, did you? You probably thought I had gone back to Jasperville," she said amidst mocking laughter that sounded painful to my ears.
"I won't go far, Sapphire! Not until I make sure your life will never be happy," she continued. Her eyes pierced sharply, her expression turning cold and flat.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my heartbeat that was erratic from the surprise. Then I straightened up, lifted my face, and met her gaze so as not to appear intimidated by her threat.
"What do you mean, Nika?" I asked as calmly as possible, even though my emotions were starting to get stirred up.
