Chapter 15: The Author Beyond Time

1090 Words
Chapter Fifteen The Author Beyond Time The words echoed across eternity. "The story isn't over." They were not shouted. They did not need to be. Every corner of creation heard them. The stars that had vanished flickered back into existence for a single heartbeat. Rivers remembered their courses. Mountains remembered their foundations. Even the forgotten souls wandering the endless darkness paused, as though a long-lost hope had whispered their names. The Editor lowered the silver shears. The Last Scribe slowly fell to one knee. The First Watcher closed his immense eye in reverence. Even the Hollow King bowed his head. Only Elias remained standing. He had never heard the voice before. Yet every part of his soul recognised it. --- The light beyond the broken heavens grew brighter. It did not blind the eyes. It illuminated the heart. From within it stepped a solitary figure clothed in robes woven from living light. His face was hidden, not by shadow, but by a radiance too pure to behold. No crown rested upon His head. No weapon hung at His side. Yet the heavens bent before His presence. The endless pages drifting across creation settled into perfect stillness. The bells stopped ringing. Time itself waited. --- The figure walked across the empty sky. He needed no road. Wherever His feet rested, paths of golden light appeared beneath Him. Each step restored something forgotten. A dead forest blossomed. A broken constellation returned. A forgotten melody drifted once more through the winds of eternity. Every step was an act of restoration. --- The Editor spoke first. For the first time, uncertainty entered its ancient voice. "Author..." The radiant figure stopped. "I know why you have come." The Editor lowered its hood. For the first time, its face was revealed. There was no face. Only countless words, endlessly rearranging themselves into stories that had never been told. "I acted according to the Final Draft." The radiant figure answered gently, "You acted according to the last draft." A long silence followed. "But this story..." He continued, "...has not yet reached its final page." --- The Last Scribe approached slowly, carrying the glowing book in trembling hands. "My Lord..." "I believed the ending had already been written." The radiant figure smiled. "No ending is complete while hope still breathes." With a single touch, He rested His hand upon the ancient book. The cracked binding mended itself. The torn pages became whole. The faded ink shone like newly poured gold. The Book of the Forgotten Hour transformed into something entirely new. Upon its cover appeared fresh words. THE BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE The library trembled with joy. Books long thought dead began singing softly. --- Elias stepped forward. "Who are You?" The radiant figure turned toward him. Instead of answering, He asked a question. "What do you remember, Elias?" The memories surged within him. The twin suns. The First Dawn. His brother. His promise. His sacrifice. His countless forgotten lives. Then... One memory remained hidden. A door. A voice beyond the door. And a name he still could not speak. "I remember almost everything." The figure nodded. "Almost." --- Mara watched in silence. Her silver wings folded as she whispered, "Father..." The First Watcher's great eye opened once more. "He alone can restore what none of us can." Tears of living light rolled across the heavens. "I have watched every age." "I have remembered every soul." "But there is one memory I was never permitted to keep." The radiant figure looked at the Watcher with compassion. "Not because it was taken from you." "Because it was entrusted to another." His gaze returned to Elias. "You carry it still." --- The Hollow King stepped forward. His voice was heavy with grief. "Brother..." "I have searched for you through ten thousand years." "I fought against the prison." "I cursed the silence." "I even cursed the heavens." His silver eyes filled with tears. "But I never stopped believing you would return." Elias slowly approached him. For the first time since memory began to return... The two brothers stood face to face. No armies. No gates. No chains. Only silence. Then Elias embraced him. The library filled with a brilliant golden light. Every forgotten soul felt warmth for the first time in ages. The Hollow King broke down in tears. "I thought I had lost you forever." "You never lost me," Elias whispered. "You only lost the memory of where to find me." --- The peace lasted only a moment. A violent crack echoed across creation. The Editor looked down. The blank page in its hand had begun tearing itself apart. The Last Scribe gasped. "Impossible..." The radiant figure's expression grew solemn. "It has begun." "What has?" Elias asked. The Author looked beyond the stars. "There is another hand." The library fell silent. "Another hand?" Mara whispered. "Yes." "A hand that does not write." "A hand that does not erase." A cold wind swept across the heavens. "It corrupts." --- Dark ink began spreading across the edges of reality. Not ordinary ink. Living ink. Where it flowed, stories twisted. Heroes became villains. Truth became deception. Love became hatred. Names became lies. The Editor stared in disbelief. "I did not write this." The Last Scribe shook his head. "Neither did I." The radiant figure spoke softly. "No." "This comes from the Ink Without Light." --- Far beyond the last stars, where even the Watcher's sight could not reach, a gigantic inkwell slowly opened. Its contents were darker than any night. From its depths emerged a monstrous hand made entirely of black ink. It held a broken quill. Every drop that fell from its tip became a nightmare. The First Watcher's eye widened in alarm. "The Corruptor..." The Hollow King stepped protectively before Elias. "I thought it was only a legend." The Author's voice became firm. "It was." "Until someone believed it." The monstrous hand raised the broken quill. Then, upon the torn page bearing the name of creation, it wrote a single sentence. LET THERE BE FORGETFULNESS AGAIN. The words burned like poison. The golden light surrounding the library began to fade. The Book of Remembrance trembled violently. The Editor dropped its silver shears. The Last Scribe's quill snapped in two. The First Watcher cried out in anguish. Even the radiant figure took one slow step forward. For the first time... He raised His hand. And every soul in creation realised that the greatest battle had not yet begun. It was only now beginning. End of Chapter Fifteen Next Chapter: The Ink Without Light
