LARA “Stop looking at me.” I commanded pathetically in a whisper. And then backed up against the tree bark until it scraped against my spine, grounding me. “Stop looking at me with those eyes.” I tried again to no avail. He was...intense. From earlier, I felt weird down there—like something low and burning was trying to claw its way out of me—and I couldn't take another second of his intense, knowing stare. His proximity wasn’t helping. If anything, it was making everything worse. So what if he recognized me? I just needed to get the hell out of this forest clearing and away from him. I shifted, trying to step to the side—but he moved fast, one arm shooting out to block my path, palm flat against the tree. A predator’s pose. Caging me in. To anyone passing by, this would look like—
