Jonathan tried very hard to focus on his next step in life. His break up with Emilie was extremely painful. He found himself spending a lot of time alone processing the emotions it brought. He had to keep going. He felt like he was between a rock and a hard place. He loved Emilie but she came packaged with circumstances that terrified him. Her success terrified him. Her family's success terrified him. Their success seemed to reflect his failures to him and that was an image that was too painful to look at every time.
