Chapter 5

Darius POV. “Father, she is nothing but a w***e!” “Say that again, and I will have your tongue…now leave,” I threaten. I try to steady the woman before me. She continues coughing, catching her breath as the stench smell of vomit fills the air. Her face glows and she becomes overly sensitive as I settle her on a nearby stool. There can be only one reason for this. A child is growing in her stomach. My child. “Come with me?” I say to her. We walk for a few seconds, and soon, we arrive at my quarters. The king's private chambers. I don't know what she is thinking but her steel expression is a sign of being unhappy. However, I'm currently the happiest man in the world. My silent prayers to not die a childless man have been answered. “Have a drink,” I give her water this time, rather than wine. No harm must come to that baby. She drinks for a few seconds and I can see the many unanswered questions in her mind. She takes a deep breath and sighs before looking at me. I return her gaze. “I never planned for this,” she says. “So did I. But who are we to question the decision of the moon goddess,” I say with great resolve. She turns her face sideways in an attempt to avoid the answered question, which is: what's next? “Do you really think this is what the moon goddess wanted?” She asks. I put down my glass cup and I move to take a squatting position before her. This affords me the opportunity to look right into her eyes. “Yes, Kara. This is exactly what the moon goddess wants. After that night, something happened to me. Something I can't explain.” I turn my face remembering the loud groan I made when I emptied my seed into her. I return my face to her and she is staring at me. “All I can tell you is that the moment healed me.” “What do you mean? She asks with a confused face. “I know this doesn't sound logical but after that day, doctor Ramos noticed a change in my heart beat. After conducting a few tests, he realised that the tumor was gone.” “What! How is that possible?” “I don't know, but I'm healed Kara,” I take her arms and I feel a trembling sensation, “which is why you need to make up your mind at this moment.” She releases my arms and walks to gaze at the window. The sun streaming down her face reveals how fragile she is. Yet, this is the woman Adrian tried to lay hands on? Heaven forbid he ever tries that again. She turns, and I see her in deep contemplation. Well, she has to consider the dire situation she is in. “I must leave, go back to my father,” she says. Why would she say that? “What! No, you are not running away. I won't tolerate that s**t from my Luna…” “Luna!” Her eyes go wild as she is surprised to hear the word. “Yes, as a matter of fact, you became my Luna the moment you started carrying that child,” I affirm. No doubt she will make a great Luna. Besides, she is already doing a great job as secretary of agriculture and food supplies. She returns to her seat then falls into deep thoughts. A pitiful face on her, and I don't understand why. “Look, Kara. I know this is too much—” “Yes, father-, Darius,” she pauses. I chuckle with a grin. An honest mistake. She wouldn't think of me as a father-in-law after all that has happened. Would she? That was certainly a long time ago. “This is wrong,” she says calmly. “No, Kara, nothing is wrong.” I contemplate the effects of my next few words. “Besides, you are a free woman.” “But I'm still married to him, and he is your son,” “An adopted son.” “What!” Her eyes go wild in shock. “Yes, Kara. I adopted Adrian when I couldn't bear the shame of being without a child.” My gaze is steady on her as she gasps, totally surprised by words. She should know that Adrian is never my son, which is why he lacked the competence to run a pack. “Does he know?” “I don't think so, and I don't care.” I sigh. “Look, Kara, all you have to do is sign these papers and marry me.” She again slumps into deep thoughts, after a while, she says, “And Adrian?” “Let me worry about that. Besides, plans are in motion to get rid of him. And don't worry about Renixion. I will take care of the elder council.” She holds her head with both palms, as if trying to avoid the reality before her. A reality that she is carrying the child of a man who would do everything to protect her, even if it means breaking all existing protocols. Besides, people do irrational things for love, and I don't think the moon goddess would give me a child only to end up punishing me for breaking some ancient rules. She holds her head and continues to pace back and forth. I can hear her murmur that ‘this is all wrong.’ But not to a man who has lived in pain and sorry for years. She turns to me, and I figure she is finally ready to take the bold step. She picks up a pen and signs the documents, officially making her my Luna, but then, she has something to say. “Can we at least keep this private for now, maybe say I’m feeling sick and…” “What do you mean?” I ask, trying to make sense of her words. Does she really want to hide the fact that she is carrying my child, and in my own pack? “I mean it's still pretty early to disclose this to the public, at least not now.” I shoot her a glare. “This is an insult to me, Kara. Adrian might be the prince but I still own my pack. I'm still the Alpha till the day I draw my last breath which is not anytime soon,” I say in a harsh tone but careful to not make her nervous. And she isn't. “I know, but please. Please do this for me. I don't want Adrian to think…” Whore! “I understand your worries, and if that's your wish, fine.” “Thank you.” I turn to leave, but I pause when I remember to add a clause to the condition. “If he lays a finger on you, he is a dead man. I swear it, Kara.” I see her smiling but I'm not joking. I will f*****g take his head if dares lay a finger on her.
