Chapter 10

1055 Words
Diana quickly entered her house after practically running away from Ben. She didn't even stop to look back. When she closed the door, she leaned against it to calm her racing heart. Why did Ben have to make her so nervous? He looked like he wanted to kiss her, but wasn't sure if she would push him away or not. With the way he made her feel, she would have let him do it if he tried. This was the second time that Diana ran away from Ben like that. The first time was when he told her directly that he should have kissed her. She made up her mind that if he tried again or suggested it, she would let him go ahead and do it. Why shouldn't she live her life? Why shouldn't she move on just like Jack did? He moved on even before their relationship ended. Why should she care if people thought it was too soon to get back into a relationship? If she thought it was OK for her to move on, then it was. Jack was probably preparing to become a father. She wanted children too and she wasn't getting any younger. She had yet to speak to her parents about the divorce, even though they had been calling and texting her for the whole week. She would deal with them on Monday. She didn't trust what Jack told them and she wanted to clear her name. After all, a liar is a cheater and a cheater is a liar. Ben told her that he would be going back to work on the coming Monday, so that meant she would be all alone. He asked her to work for him as his assistant, but she didn't want to start working so soon. She decided to start next month. Ben told her to dress casually, so she put on a pair of denim jeans, white sneakers, a white t-shirt and her favorite denim jacket. She combed her bob, applied a little lip gloss and voila, she was ready. It was 10 minutes to five o' clock and Ben would be there shortly. She skimmed through the messages on her phone to see if anyone except for her parents had messaged her. She saw a message from Jack. 'We need to talk.' Talk my a*s. What the hell did he have to say to her? Diana deleted the message instantly. She wasn't going to entertain Jack. He broke her heart for his secretary. How much more embarrassing could it get? There was a knock on the door, which brought Diana out of her reverie. She already knew who it was. She ran to the door, then composed herself and opened it. It was as if they had planned to wear the same thing. They were dressed almost the same, minus the jacket. He had on a white, long-sleeve v-neck t-shirt instead. "What a coincidence." Diana said. "Haven't you heard? great mind think alike." Ben replied. "Let me just get my purse and then I'll be ready." Ben waited at the front door. Diana came out less than a minute later, putting her phone into her purse. Not that she needed it. They walked towards the town, talking casually. "So, you still haven't told me what kind of event we're going to." Diana said. "You'll see when we get there." Ben told her. "Ugh! Men." Ben burst out with laughter at her statement. "Women are too impatient." He said. "Men are impatient too." Diana countered. "Yeah, but not as much as women." "Whatever." Diana rolled her eyes at him. In no time, they were at their destination and Diana's eyes lit up like a child who got an unlimited supply of candy. He took her to the annual town fair. All Diana could see were the rides and the colors. It was like an amusement park in town. She didn't have the time to do anything fun when she was with Jack. He usually took up all of her time and energy. She jumped into Ben's arms and kissed him on his cheek. Ben was the one who now felt like a child. He couldn't believe that she just kissed him without hesitation. It was on the cheek, but nonetheless, it was a kiss. Diana was too happy to realize what she had done. "Let's get tickets and go on the ferris wheel first." She was pulling Ben with her and he just let her. It was the first time he had seen her so happy, so he didn't want to ruin the moment. "OK." He replied. Diana and Ben purchased the tickets and joined the line to go on the ferris wheel. They were next in line. He had to laugh at Diana's childish behaviour. She was throwing a tantrum, wanting to get on the ride already. No one was happier than her when the ride ended. She grabbed Ben and dragged him like she had been doing since they got there. He didn't mind though. He would give anything to make sure she stayed this happy. Especially after what she had been through. Why couldn't he have found her sooner? He would have worshipped the ground she walked on. Women like her were rare and needed to be cherished. And if she decided to be his, that was exactly what he would do. The only reason he was enjoying the ride was because of the way she was behaving. He was pleased that he could cheer her up. Seeing her laugh was everything. He wanted to take a chance and kiss Diana, but didn't know if he should do it. Diana realized Ben was staring at her and turned to look at him. She brushed both of her cheeks with her hands to see if something was on them, but there was nothing. She wondered why he was staring at her like that. She licked her lips and the action caught ben's eyes. Now or never. He held her head gently, and brought his face closer, slowly, until their lips were connected. He thought Diana would have pushed him away, but she reciprocated. What made the kiss more perfect, were the fireworks that were being displayed. No regrets were on either of their minds. This kiss would change everything.
