Chapter 8

1178 Words
Ben woke up conflicted with his thoughts. How could one woman, who he had just begun to know, stir up things inside him? From what he knew, she came from money. But she wasn't the typical rich girl. She was not stuck-up or spoilt. In fact, she was humble and old-fashioned. She didn't tell him directly, but he knew she had only been with her ex-husband. He knew from the things she told him yesterday. She was the type of woman any man would be glad to go home to. That was the reason why he couldn't understand why her ex-husband decided to cheat on her and, on top of it, agreed to the divorce so quickly. If Ben was in his shoes, he would at least try to fight for the marriage. He would have been on his knees, ready to make every wish of hers come true. He thought she was the type of woman you introduce to your parents. His mother would absolutely love her, but they weren't at that stage and he didn't know if it would ever get there. He didn't even know if she would be interested in him eventually. His phone beeped on his bedside table. Imagine his satisfaction when he saw that it was a text from the person who had begun to invade his mind recently. Diana: Please tell your girlfriend not to come over to my house again. Ben: What the hell? What was she doing at your house? Diana: She was here to warn me to stay away from 'her man.' Ben: But it's still early. What time was she there? Diana: She came right after you left last night. It's as if she was watching you. Ben: I'm sorry about that. Diana: It's OK. Ben:What are you doing now? Diana: I'm about to make some breakfast. Ben: Can I come over? Diana: Sure. Ben: I'll be there in 20 minutes. Diana: OK. Diana wondered why she so readily agreed for him to come over. The only men she had ever been comfortable around, not that she had been around many, were her father and Jack. 'And Ben.' Her inner voice said. She knew this feeling all too well. She felt the same way she did when she started liking Jack. She sighed. This was the last thing she expected. She got out of bed and into the bathroom. After a quick shower and other morning routines, she went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. On the other hand, Jack was so happy she agreed to let him come over that he forgot the fact that she told him Suzie had gone to her house, or might be watching him.He had the quickest shower he'd ever had in his entire life. Ben left his house and was about to cross the street. "Are you going over there? Weren't you there last night?" Suzie pointed towards Diana's house. He was startled because he didn't expect her to be there so early. She lived in the town near here, but anyone who didn't know her would think that this town was her home. "How do you know I was over there last night?" Ben asked. "Because I came back after I cooled down, but you were busy at that b*tch's house." Ben wasn't too happy with her calling Diana a b*tch. She was nowhere near that. "So that gave you the right to go over to her house and tell her to stay away from me? Your supposed-to-be man. You know that we aren't in a relationship. We were just each other's convenience. We never were and will never be." Ben finally told her after leading her on for a while. "So you have s*x with me for years and as soon as another woman comes along, you're ready to dump me? She looks like the type of woman who would make you work for her trust and her body. With me, you can get it any time you want." Did Suzie really think she was complimenting herself? Because she wasn't. "That is what I like about her. She's not easy." Ben said. Suzie realized that she had insulted herself, but she only heard one thing. "So, you like her?" She asked. "Yes. I do. And I want to work something out with her. Goodbye Suzie." Suzie's face contorted in anger. If they thought she was going to give up that easily, they had another thing coming. If she couldn't have him, she would make sure Diana didn't. "You'll regret throwing me away like a piece of garbage." With that she left. Ben shook his head and crossed the street to where he was supposed to be if Suzie didn't stop him. He knocked and waited. Diana opened the door wearing a beautiful white sundress that reached her knees. She was the epitome of beauty in Ben's eyes. "Good morning."Ben said. He could smell the aroma of freshly made breakfast. "Good morning. Please, come in." Diana invited him inside and led him to the kitchen. "What do we have here?" He asked. He didn't know Diana could prepare such a mouth-watering meal. "Let's eat." Ben didn't have to be told twice. He was about to take a plate to put some of the food on it, when Diana handed him the one she had in her hands, and took the empty one he had. "Thank you." Only one woman ever dished his food for him and that was his mother. Right then and there, he knew Diana was the one. "You're welcome. Dig in." She told him. "Don't mind if I do." Ben said. He grabbed a forkful of scrambled eggs. The minute it came in contact with his taste buds he moaned, causing Diana to almost choke on her meal. The only time she had ever heard those sounds was when she and Jack were intimate. After realizing what had almost happened, Ben decided to keep his moaning to himself. There was complete silence, except for the clanging of the utensils and the clinking of the glasses. After Ben had finished, he leaned back in his chair to take a look at Diana. He couldn't stop stressing about how perfect she was. He was going to try and spend the whole weekend with her, because even though he was the boss, he was due for work. Speaking of which, he had to remind her about the town even. "Please remember tomorrow. I'll come over at 5pm and we can walk into the town from here."He told her. "No problem." She replied and continued eating. Since Diana was planning to bring the garden back to its former gory, Ben stayed there the whole day and helped her. She didn't know much about plants, but he taught her what he knew. He even went to his house and retrieved pictures he took of the garden before it was abandoned. It was beautiful. Diana didn't know if she could get it to that point, but she was sure going to try.
