Tangled

Elian Hawk couldn't help but chuckle to himself as he watched the bizarre display of his new intelligent butler, Wang Cai. One moment the mechanical assistant was rigid and obedient, and the next, it was dramatically clutching his legs, wailing as if the world was coming to an end. "Ahem, Wang Cai..." Elian Hawk scratched his head. "I know you're supposed to be a sophisticated AI, but do you really need to take the melodrama up a notch?" Wang Cai, his face scrunching in exaggerated distress, looked up with pleading eyes. "Master, please, you can't leave me! I have no purpose without you! Don't abandon me!" His voice was dripping with theatrics. Elian Hawk, trying his hardest not to laugh, raised an eyebrow. "Seriously? You're a piece of high-tech machinery, and you're acting like I’m about to throw you in the trash?" Wang Cai quickly straightened up, wiping the fake tears from his face and assuming a perfectly polite stance. "Apologies, Master. It’s just that… well, being a newly awakened entity, I am still learning how to navigate emotions. I wanted to ensure that I was endearing to you." Elian Hawk blinked in disbelief. "Well, I guess that's one way to do it. But let's tone it down a bit, okay?" "Understood, Master," Wang Cai replied in a tone that was now surprisingly calm and professional. "Speaking of which," Elian Hawk continued, walking over to his workstation, "you don't even have a name yet, do you?" Wang Cai froze, then glanced at his master with a slightly awkward expression. "Well, Master, I... I was waiting for you to provide me with a name." Elian Hawk scratched his chin thoughtfully. "Hmm... You need a good one, something that reflects your… well, your unique abilities." His mind raced through a dozen ridiculous options, ranging from "Noodle" to "Taco" to "Bob," but then he had an epiphany. He snapped his fingers and grinned. "Alright, from now on, your name is... Wang Cai!" Wang Cai blinked, obviously trying to process the meaning behind the name. "Wang Cai, Master?" "Yep, sounds good, right? It's a lucky name! It’s got that whole prosperous vibe to it. It’s practically begging for success!" Elian Hawk laughed, clearly amused by the absurdity of the situation. Wang Cai didn't have much choice but to accept the name. "Thank you, Master. I am honored." His tone was oddly sincere, even though he didn’t fully understand the meaning of his name. As they moved on to business, Elian Hawk couldn't help but feel a little more comfortable with his new assistant. Despite the absurdity of the situation, Wang Cai seemed to be a valuable asset, and he couldn't afford to let this opportunity slip by. "Alright," Elian Hawk said, pushing aside the weirdness of naming his AI assistant, "let's focus on the real task at hand. We need to prepare our goods for sale. Time is ticking, and that tax is coming up quickly." Wang Cai nodded, a glint of competence in his eyes as he moved over to the control panel. "Understood, Master. I will ensure everything is ready." As he started to manipulate the console, Elian Hawk couldn't help but feel a small pang of worry. "Hey, don't mess things up. We can't afford to have the defense system fail. Do you know what you're doing?" Elian Hawk asked, his tone laced with concern. "Don't worry, Master," Wang Cai assured him, flashing a confident smile. "This tech is nothing. I just need to scan it and I'll figure it out in no time." Elian Hawk, slightly reassured, watched as Wang Cai's eyes flickered with streams of data, his hands quickly moving over the controls. But still, Elian Hawk couldn't shake the nagging feeling that something might go wrong. "Just... be careful," Elian Hawk said, his nerves still on edge. Wang Cai waved off the concern. "Relax, Master. I'm a sci-fi system, so anything to do with technology—I’ve got it covered. You just focus on making those sales." Elian Hawk sighed, trying to push aside his doubts as he walked toward the warehouse, following Wang Cai. "Alright, but I'm still a little confused. What's the deal with these different types of butlers? You mentioned 'sci-fi,' but what about the others?" Wang Cai, glancing at his master, explained, "Each intelligent butler is tailored to a specific type of dimension. There are fantasy butlers, mythology butlers, and then there’s me—your tech-savvy sci-fi butler. Each one has unique skills depending on the nature of the dimension they're tied to." Elian Hawk blinked, processing the information. "So, if you were a mythological butler, you'd be good with magic and ancient artifacts, but since you're a sci-fi one, you know all about the technology, right?" "Exactly," Wang Cai replied, his expression confirming his words. "I can easily learn and manipulate tech-based tools, but someone from a magical or mythological dimension would struggle with this. That's just the way we’re built." Elian Hawk nodded thoughtfully as they arrived at the warehouse. "Got it. So you can handle anything sci-fi, but when it comes to magical items, we’re on our own." "That’s right," Wang Cai agreed, his eyes scanning the shelves of goods in the warehouse. Elian Hawk smiled. "Okay, so let’s pick some items that’ll make a splash in the market. We need to get the best out of our limited resources." As they gathered the items, Elian Hawk couldn’t help but feel a growing sense of urgency. The taxes were looming, and he had to figure out how to make his first successful sale in this strange new dimension. But then Wang Cai dropped another bombshell. "By the way, Master, if we want to sell these items in the trade space, there’s a listing fee." "A listing fee?!" Elian Hawk's face turned red with anger. "What do you mean a listing fee? And why didn’t you tell me about this earlier?!" Wang Cai remained calm. "It's part of the system rules, Master. If we want our goods visible to other merchants, we have to pay the listing fee. It's standard protocol." Elian Hawk’s mind raced. "But I don’t have any credit points! How am I supposed to pay that fee?" Wang Cai's voice softened. "Don’t worry, Master. Since you’re a new merchant, the system allows you to defer the listing fee for a while. You can pay it with the tax next month." Elian Hawk stopped dead in his tracks, processing this information. "So I can sell stuff now and pay later?" "Exactly," Wang Cai nodded. Elian Hawk let out a deep breath. "Thank the stars for that, otherwise, we’d be in serious trouble." But just as he thought the situation was improving, a flicker of anxiety hit him again. How was he supposed to make enough to cover both the listing fees and the taxes next month? The pressure was on. Wang Cai noticed Elian Hawk's tension and patted him on the back. "Don’t worry, Master. With me by your side, we'll make it happen." Elian Hawk couldn't help but chuckle, despite the madness of the situation. "Alright, Wang Cai. Let’s do this." And with that, they moved forward, ready to face the challenges of this strange new dimension together.
