Attracted by waves of shouts and cheers, Jane peered between two saloon tents and glimpsed a fistfight that was just getting underway. The two combatants were stripped to the waist and circled each other warily while agitated patrons shouted and bet on the outcome. Jane watched for a few minutes, enthralled by the force of the blows the men inflicted upon one another, but the boxers moved out of her narrow view, so she moved on. She quickened her pace towards the horse racing underway just ahead, where she spotted Andrew and friends James, Robert, and Dez. Andrew waved Jane toward them. “Hey,” Jane greeted them. “You gotta see this,” Andrew said. “Hey, Jane,” said James. Robert gave her a disdainful glance. “Hey, James. Dez,” said Jane.
