Chapter 01 | The Boy

784 Words
My name is Jyu, An ordinary person from a town on the coast, Why do I say ordinary human? Well, because this world does not only have humans, there are several races that inhabit this world. However, thanks to that, this world has been able to develop to the present day, with daily equipment, transport, buildings, resources, and much more to the point where food is not a major problem for every country. With the development of technology to date, life in this world is quite normal, each race is able to live peacefully, with no excessive fighting and wars for land or resources. What about me? My life has been pretty relaxed up until now, growing up on the coast has allowed me to have some abilities that most urban dwellers don't have. The city where I live is also not really affected by the rapid development of technology that has occurred in recent decades. Decades? Yes, decades, technology cannot develop in just a matter of years, especially if it changes the entire civilisation of living beings in this world. A voice from outside echoed in his room, "Jyu! Help grandpa here!" I called back, "Just a moment, Grandpa!" I lived only with my grandfather, for as long as I can remember I had no other family besides my grandfather. Even so, the two of us don't look alike at all, so many people think we're not family. Well, yes, but this was just the beginning of the story of my very un-"casual" journey. Until one conversation changed the course of my life. "What's this?" I asked my grandfather. When I looked at my grandfather, he was facing a tall man wearing a black military robe. My grandfather was quite tall compared to other humans, especially when we walked to the market or other crowded places, he usually towered over the sea of people. The man then asked, "Is it him?" "It's about time, isn't it?" my grandfather replied. I initially just watched the two of them talking while looking at me, then my grandfather called out to me with a gesture of his hand. "Jyu, there's something I need to talk to you about," before continuing my grandfather looked at the man in the robe and he immediately left us both in the living room. "It's about your origins," my grandfather continued. "Grandpa, who was that?" I asked in confusion. My grandfather just looked at my eyes and took something out of a bag that was in front of us. Then he explained again, "Today 18 years ago, you first arrived in this world, this book contains notes from your mother, she told grandfather to give this to you when you were old enough." My grandfather gave me the brown notebook that he showed me. On the cover was the words 'For Jyu'. After seeing the name, I looked back at my grandfather and he just nodded. Without thinking, I opened it and started reading from the very first page. ... Jyu, this book was made for you. My name is Julia, your mother. The first generation of the Awakened. You may not know what an Awakened is because you're now living with your grandfather in the countryside far from the big city, but you'll find out for yourself. I have something to tell you. I made this book a long time ago long before I gave birth to you into this world, because I knew that you would not be born normally so I'm sorry that I couldn't be with you all this time. ... I only read the first page but I didn't realise that tears were running down my cheeks. "Julia is a good child, she also has many friends who have always been with her from the beginning she became Awakened," my grandfather let out his voice after seeing me grieve silently. Then he continued, "We may have lived together for almost 18 years, but there are some things you don't know about me. Firstly, my name is Wolfe. Secondly, I'm also an Awakened just like your mother, but due to age issues I've gone into reserve and only become active when the situation requires it." The man in the black robe returned and said seriously, "Mr. Wolfe, the barrier is gone," coming to meet us who were talking, his face looked serious. "Huh. We can't stay here for long, Jyu here," said my grandfather who was now named Wolfe approaching me, I didn't know what my grandfather wanted to do but he just tried to touch my forehead with his hand. For a moment his finger touched my forehead. I felt sleepy. And, I didn't—.
