CHAPTER 14 SELENE’S POV Five days had passed since I returned to the omega quarters, and each day that passed felt like a slow suffocation. The familiar scents of damp straw and lye soap should have comforted me, but instead, they made my skin crawl. Every corner of this place whispered memories I couldn’t grasp...... fleeting images of a life that didn’t feel like mine. Mira hovered over me like a second shadow, her worry etched at every glance. "You need to eat. You have been starving yourself which is not good for your health" she urged, pressing a bowl of rich broth into my hands. I collected it and forced a sip, at first the taste was ashen on my tongue. Not like was resisting food, but I had lost every appetite and my taste buds were weak. She glared at me and I slowly munched the meal. The food tasted so good. I couldn't remember exactly when I last had such a great meal. "You made it?" I asked and she smirked. "You like it?" "Of course I do and you can tell that right?" I asked, looking at her smirked face. "Well, if you say so. But your face says otherwise" She muttered and looked away. "My face?" I asked touching my cheek. "I mean the food is great and I love it. Believe me!." I dropped the bowl on the table and grabbed her hand. She smiled warmly and I knew she was happy I had eaten something. The omega's quarter was quiet as ever, everyone minding their business. The only sound was the whistle of the night bird and murmurs of unseen shadows. Across the room, two omegas whispered, their voices low but sharp enough that I could hear clearly. "I heard the cursed alpha’s gone feral. They say he’s worse than a rogue now" My fingers tightened around the edge of the table. Kieran!!! Why does that name make my pulse stutter? The alpha who had humiliated me. The one they said I should hate... The one I'm supposed to hate... But when I tried to summon that hatred, all I felt was… Emptiness... I just wanted to see him and asked him why....! I wanted to know his reasons.—not like they mattered but it might best settle the grudge I had for him. The way people gossip about him makes it look like he was a daredevil. Perhaps he was. Judging from how he treated me. And then there was him..... Rathgar!!! The One who had called me Luna. The one whose touch had sparked something deep inside me, something I couldn’t name. Now, he felt like a dream slipping through my fingers. "You’re safe here," Mira murmured. She brushed a hand over my hair as we lay in the dark. She noticed that I was unsettled and bordered. Aside from Rathgar, Mira has been the best person I've come across so far. Her constant reassurance was comforting but not enough because every time I closed my eyes, I saw him...... not Rathgar, but Kieran his face twisted in pain, his voice raw with something that sounded like regret. And the worst part? I didn’t know why it'd hurt me so much to see him like that... ************** A loud knock on the door woke us up. It was Miss Nix. The head of the omega. "It time for your morning duties" She muttered to our sleepy faces and left two buckets for us. Even though the whole night was just like a blur, I still remember a fragment of it. —Kieran howling in pain. "We are to scrub the floor! " Mira grumbled, grabbing one of the buckets. "I Don't know why she finds it endlessly amusing to assign to task to me. Now, to us!" She bit her bottom lips to stifle to next word from coming from her mouth. As we tirelessly scrubbed the castle floor, I tried so hard to avoid so many people from seeing me. This is what had to deal with till God knows when. As I pushed the pocket forward toward the window, a familiar scent struck me. It was so potent, so overwhelmingly familiar, that it stopped me in a minute. "It can be! " I panicked internally, I clutched the pendant on my neck. The one he had gifted me. From the second floor of the castle, I could swear the scent came from outside. It hit me so hard that it felt so overwhelming. I didn't want to believe that it was..... No! My heart flushed. It couldn't be. He couldn't have found me so easily. My breath hitched as my eyes fell on a small group of men walking freely into the pack. My eyes scanned through the small group of men and my greatest wish materialized but it shouldn't be so easy. Not for someone who brought Battle the Pack days ago. Unless they are plotting something beyond danger and evil. Alpha Cyrus had invited them and only the moon can tell what's behind the mind of Treacherous Alpha. As if on cue, He lifted his gaze, his eyes piercing across the distance and straight to where I stood almost as if he knew I was standing there. Our eyes met and the world seemed to stop spinning. His Brown eyes locked onto mine and my heart flushed. ****** KIERAN’S POV The full moon hung heavy in the ink-black sky, casting a cold silver glow over the forest. Pulling at the beast beneath my skin, awakening its hunger, it rages to consume me. One moment, I was staring into the dying embers of the fire., Lira’s warmth was a steady presence beside me. The next moment was agony. My bones snapped, my skin splitting as the beast inside me tore free. I barely registered Lira’s hands on me, her voice cutting through the haze of pain. "Kieran! Look at me. Breathe!" She muttered. Her palms glowed with a soft, silver light (moonweaver magic) cooling the fire in my veins. It wasn’t enough to stop the shift, but it dulled the edge long enough for me to choke out a single word: "Run." She didn’t. Stubborn and reckless woman. I She stayed, her magic weaving through the curse-like threads of moonlight, her fingers gentle as they brushed the fur now covering my body. "You’re not a monster," she whispered. I wanted to believe her. But it was beyond obvious that I was going completely wild. Suddenly, an arrow shattered the window, embedding itself in the wall directly opposite me. I dragged my limp self and looked through the window, and I saw Garrick. His warriors poured into the crumbling castle, their swords gleaming in the early light. At the front stood my half-brother as they said. His face twisted in triumph. "Bring me his head!" he roared. Lira’s magic flared, a shield of silver light slamming into the first wave of attackers. She grabbed my arm, her grip iron-strong as she dragged me toward the back passage. "Move!" she snarled. I felt too weak to even walk. I was cut in between my natural self and I was yet to become. We burst into the forest, the cold air biting at my wounds. My monstrous form faltered, my vision swimming with pain. Garricks warriors didn't hesitate to chase us. They were in the tens and well-equipped with weapons. I saw the desperation and eagerness in Lira's eyes. She wanted me to run fast, to escape death. But I couldn't help but slow the process. We almost got caught by one of the warriors when I heard an arrow whistled past my ear, burying itself in the throat of the warrior behind us. I quivered as a tall, dark man stepped from the trees, his bow still raised, his smirk sharp as a blade. He knocked another arrow and pointed it at me as he approached.
