CHAPTER EIGHT

Annabelle was walking with Jace along the school hallway. Jace was telling her places in school. They were also diverting and getting to know each other. Annabelle's eyes caught the swimming pool arena and she went in. "Wow, this place is so beautiful."

Jace asked, "You love the pool?"

Annabelle nodded, removed her shoes, rolled up her jeans a bit and sat at the edge of the pool swinging her legs in the water. Jace removed his shoes as well and sat beside her. She continued, "I always go to the pool whenever I want to be alone. Sometimes when I'm nervous, or if I want to pour my heart out, I just love to go to the pool. I don't need to swim though, but with my legs in the water, it totally helps."

Jace looked at her and asked, "Are you nervous? Considering the fact that it's your first day."

Annabelle sighed, "Not really, maybe I was earlier but I'm not anymore."

Jace continued, "Why did you decide to come to this school?"

   "All my life, my parents have been moving us from one place to another. I change schools a lot, virtually every year. They work a lot and I understand if it costs them moving all the time. But one thing I'm happy about this time is that we are not moving again." Then she smiled.

Jace smiled and looked, "It's okay Anna. I'm sure they are working just to give you and your siblings a good life."

Annabelle looked at him, "Thank you Jace. I understand." They looked at each other and their eyes met, this time more deeply. Jace leaned in and looked at her lips and back to her face. Annabelle looked at his eyes and lips as well. Jace leaned in again. This time,  Annabelle closed her eyes. He was about to lean in more when the door opened and Max came running in. Annabelle opened her eyes immediately and Jace pulled back. Max stopped, "Annabelle. Oh thank God I found you here….and with Jace." Annabelle stood up, wore her shoes and adjusted her jeans, "Thank you Jace for the tour. I have to go now."

Max stopped her, "Wait, you allowed Jace to show you round the school? I thought I volunteered to do that already."

Annabelle looked at Max, "Listen Max, I have to go."

Max held her hand saying, "I'm sorry for being such a jerk then." Annabelle nodded and left immediately. Max was about to follow her when Jace grabbed his hand, "Let her be man!"

Max removed his hand from Jace, "You know what Jace, whatever you are planning or whatever you were planning to do before I entered, it won't work."

Jace stood in front of him, "Oh really Max, because we were so close from what I observed. I won't let you ruin this for me Max. Not this time."

Max grabbed his shirt, "No matter what you say Jace, Annabelle would never go for your type and I'm sure of that."

Jace released himself from Max, "Stay away from her Max, you've caused enough trouble for her."

Max rolled his eyes, "Pathetic." Then he ran out of the swimming arena hoping to catch up with Annabelle.

Annabelle was walking slowly to class, baby steps. Her mind went back to what just happened. 

   "Was Jace trying to kiss me? What just happened?"

The thoughts disappeared immediately Max touched her shoulders. She looked at him and sighed, "You really don't give up right? I've told you to leave me alone."

Max shook his head saying, "I needed to apologize to you. I shouldn't have stared at you that way. I made you uncomfortable and I'm sorry."

Annabelle nodded, smiling, "Thank you." She started walking and Max ran in front of her asking, "Have you forgiven me?"

Annabelle nodded and they both walked to class.

Everyone was in class when Charlie walked in angrily in her cheerleading outfit. People wondered why she was wearing that. Alexa whispered to Michelle, stood up and walked to Charlie's table. Alexa smirked asking, "Charlie, what happened to you? It's not time for cheerleading."

Charlie snapped at her immediately, "Listen Alexa, stop trying to get smart with me."

Alexa laughed and continued, "That reminds me Charlie, when are you holding your lame party?"

Charlie answered angrily, "Must you always be a b***h, Alexa?"

Alexa leaned closer to her and said softly, "Hey, remember we have new students in the class now, and here's my advice to you, let your party be strictly by invitation."

 Charlie laughed saying, "Oh yeah. That's a great idea for you not to be at my party."

Alexa went back to her seat, patted Michelle on the shoulder saying, "Watch."

     Charlie stood up and went to the front of the class. Annabelle was reading a book. Charlie continued, "Please can I have everyone's attention? I have an announcement to make." She rolled her eyes and clapped, "Including you Annabelle."

Annabelle sighed, closed her book and looked at her. Charlie smiled and continued, "Good. As we all know, Friday is coming and so, I would be hosting a party at my house and it's going to be strictly by invitation, so losers like Rosella who destroy my party with their lame selves are not invited and also annoying people like Alexa."

Alexa laughed, "They are lame parties though."

Annabelle turned back to look at Rosella, who had already buried her head in her book after the embarrassment Charlie caused her. Annabelle turned back her book, picked it up and continued reading.

Olivia shrieked, "Oh my God! I can't wait for your party on Friday Charlie. I'm sure it would be so lit!!"

Michelle stood up and clapped as she walked to the front of the class. "Wow wow wow. Typical Charlie."

Charlie asked, "What are you doing? Go back to your seat, I'm still talking."

Michelle ignored her and said to everyone, "So, Charlie's hosting a party at her house which is strictly by invitation." She turned to Charlie, "Oh sweetheart, what a loss." She smiled and faced the whole class saying, "Well, everyone I am hosting the greatest party at my house on Friday, and guess what, you are all invited."

Annabelle looked up from her book immediately, she couldn't believe what she just heard Michelle say.

Charlie was already piseed, "Hey! Host your party some other time!! Besides I really don't get you, you are new to this school, you don't know how things are done here and you want to host a party?!"

Alexa stood up immediately and said, "How about we make a deal. Whoever hosts the greatest party of all time this year would get to sit on the Throne of the Queen of High School.'

Charlie shook her head, "Oh no no no no. I will not let you take it to that level Alexa. I worked so hard to reach where I am now, and you expect me to throw it away because of her. Not happening."

Michelle looked at Charlie, "Oh Charlie are you scared? Are you afraid you will lose and I will get to sit on the throne?"

Charlie blurted out, "Fine! It's a deal!! May the best host win!!" Then she went to her seat angrily. 

Michelle was about to go back to her seat when Annabelle held her hand and whispered in her ear, "Hey, come with me." Both of them stepped out and Annabelle led her to the hallway.

 She snapped, "Michelle, what in the world are you doing? You want to host a party at our house?"

Michelle answered, "Listen Annabelle, take it easy okay. I'm trying to do something."

Annabelle shook her head, "You are always trying to do something, all the time. Well, since you've decided to host the party at our house, which I know mom would never approve of and she would be disappointed in you. I hope you know how to explain yourself."

Michelle leaned against the wall, "Wait, what do you think of me Annabelle? An i***t? I can handle mom. I know just what to tell her."

 Annabelle nodded, "Goodluck with that." Immediately the bell rang and both of them made their way into the class. Students were already leaving the class. Rose walked past Annabelle in a hurry and Annabelle sighed. She walked to her table and found her bag already packed. She looked at Max, "Thanks."

Max smiled, "It's no problem, we just have to be good to each other."

Jace walked over to Annabelle with his bag on his shoulder, "Hey Anna, I'll see you around." Then he left. Alexa watched as Jace left the class, she sighed, took her bag and slowly left the class. 

Michelle walked over to Annabelle and Max, "Hey Max, you are not leaving?"

Max answered, "Oh, I'm just waiting for my sister."

  Michelle nodded, "Oh Olivia, the one who tags along with Charlie even if Kara doesn't like it."

Max was surprised and asked, "How did you know Olivia is my sister? I never told you."

Michelle took her bag, "I have my ways Max. Come on Annabelle, let's go."

Annabelle took her bag and Max came in front of Annabelle saying, "I'm so glad you are my seat partner Annabelle, I'll see you tomorrow. Bye." He then left with Bob.

Michelle nudged her playfully, "Oh wow, what do I see here? Someone is in love with Annabelle."

  Annabelle stopped her, "Don't even think about it Michelle." Michelle laughed out, "Oh please Annabelle, you know me by now, I will find out."

They were walking down the stairs and saw Kara sitting there. Michelle tapped Annabelle and spoke to Kara, "Hey Kara, what are you doing here? Waiting for someone?"

Kara looked up, "Oh yeah, it's you, Michelle and Annabelle."

Michelle asked smiling, "Um, what's that supposed to mean?"

Kara ignored her question and faced Annabelle saying, "I know you are the gentle one and I would advise you to move along." Annabelle tapped Michelle and they left.

Charlie came downstairs some minutes later to meet Kara. Kara stood up asking, "What have you been doing?"

   "I was collecting my clothes from the laundry. I'll change in the car, can't let mom know I got humiliated in school. Come on, let's go."

Charlie held her hand and they left the school.

Max and Olivia got home and Tess welcomed them, she noticed Max smiling unusually and asked Olivia, "Did something happen at school today?"

Olivia shook her head asking, "Nothing. What happened Tess?"

Tess pointed at Max, "Look at your brother, he never smiles from school. Do you think something happened to him?"

Olivia shrugged and Tess tapped him, "Max, are you okay?"

Max was thinking about Annabelle. She was so beautiful, he knew she had a twin, but he was attracted to her and he could identify her from Michelle. She was so gentle, had a nice smile, was calm and composed. He remembered touching her hand even if it made her uncomfortable, she had soft hands and her eyes were so pretty. He snapped out of it as Tess tapped him asking if he  was okay. He looked at Tess smiling, "Oh I'm so fine Tess."

Tess smiled asking, "Did something happen at school today?"

Max shook his head, "Well Tess, nothing happened at school. I'm just feeling happy."

Olivia cut in, "Oh please Max, you don't have to lie to us. It's obvious that something is making you happy….something must have happened and you have to tell us."

Max stood up taking his bag, "Listen, it's nothing okay. Need to take a shower now." Then he walked upstairs. 

Tess looked at Olivia, "Well, whatever it is, we would find out eventually….you know, if he tells us."

Olivia laughed, "Of course Tess and I'm going to get words out of his mouth anyway. Need to go take a shower as well. I'll be right back." She hugged Tess, took her bag and went upstairs.
