Chapter Six: Wedding Bells

“ Good morning ma” Rebecca and Mia greeted and gave mum a hug “ Hi Ash” Ashley smiled and that was a first, I must say. Grandma came downstairs and the greetings continued. The Alisons came inside and settled down, they were chit-chatting, “I know this arrangement took you guys by surprise, but trust me if i had a way, everything would have been different” Grandma said to Beatrice referring to my marriage to Alex “Don't worry grandma, it's just a matter of time. Everything will fall into place” Becca said in mockery and Kat rolled her eyes. I felt a white-hot surge of frustration take over my mind but I tried my best to keep my cool. All these insults are happening because of a man that called himself “my father”, at that moment, I just hated him. I felt so uncomfortable, Kat noticed this and excused the both of us. We went upstairs to her room and I told what I saw yesterday night “That b***h!” Kat cursed, “Seriously, Alex had to do something like that on your engagement night” I managed to calm her down and assured her that I am fine. Days passed by and it was finally time for me to move to Alex’s house. Kat tried to go with me but I assured her I would be ok. I gave mum and dad a hug and got into the car. I am going to be in that house alone with the monster. The thought alone was disheartening but I had no other choice. The car pulled up in front of a huge gate that opened up to a grand, tree-lined driveway leading to the main house, passing sculpted gardens, sparkling fountains, and luxury sports cars parked in a private garage. The infinity pool glistens under the sun, overlooking a breathtaking view, while guesthouses, a helipad, and a private tennis court and a well trimmed garden adds to the grandeur. Every corner of the house exudes elegance, from marble pathways to ambient lighting that transforms the space into a nighttime paradise. It wasn't as big as the family house but it was big enough. With the help of the maids, I got in, I was showed to my room and I settled down “Excuse me, is Alex around?” I asked one of the maids “No ma’am, the boss went to work and will be coming back later at night” “Ok” Thank Goodness. I sighed in relief I took a bath, changed my clothes and after a while, I drifted off to sleep. I woke up by 6pm, refreshed up and went downstairs for dinner. Alex still wasn't back according to the maid and she served me food. “Tell me about your boss, I mean I know there are rumours about him but I just want to hear from someone working for him” I asked “Ma, I….” I could hear and feel the fear in her breaking voice. “Call me Elena please” I said “Ma..sorry Elena, The boss is a very terrifying person, he doesn't listen or take apologies. Anyone who dares him receives a punishment worse than death. He only cares about his family and no one else” she said in a voice, almost a whisper. I won't deny it, what she said got me scared Just what have I gotten myself into. The discomfort in my stomach due to fear made me lose my appetite and I just went upstairs. Kat called on a video call around 8:30, we had a long chat and it helped in taking my mind off what I heard about Alex. We talked till I slept off. The wedding is to be held at St Paul Cathedral, followed by the reception/party in the evening at the Rodriguez mansion’s garden. The uneasiness and stomach tightening I felt during the engagement party was nothing compared to what I feel right now. I could literally feel my intestine twisting as I walked up to the altar with my “father”. As I looked up at Alex, I made a wish that the ground would open up and swallow me. “All you have to do is to be an obedient little girl for 2 years and it will be over soon”my dad whispered. I hate you. I muttered under my breath. We exchanged vows and I could swear that I saw an evil smirk on Alex's face. The wedding ended with a few pictures with families and we went home. Six hours Later I stepped into the garden for the party and Kat approached me. “You look absolutely stunning” Kat commented and hugged me and I gave her a smile The garden was filled with wealthy families and dignitaries. I looked around and I couldn't see Alex. Seriously. Is this a joke to him? “Hi sister” Rose was actually the one who called me and she walked up to me with her sister, Isabelle. “Hi” I said forcing a smile “Looks like you are all by yourself, I don't see your supposed husband” Isabelle said in a mocking way. “I don't see how any of that is your business” I snapped at her. “Of course, it isn't any of our business, I mean no one will be proud of getting married to a rat like you,” Rose said. It took every bit of self control in me to not drag her hair. I simply glared at them for a while and walked away angrily. This is all his fault. What kind of man doesn't show up at his wedding? “There you are” It was mom. She took me to her clique of friends and introduced me to them. “She is so beautiful, Caroline you are lucky” one of the women said and mom smiled. “Where is Alex?” One of them asked I could see embarrassment and disappointment written all over mom's face. “He is somewhere around, I am sure he's with his friends” I said and mom smiled at me. The party lasted till midnight before the guests started leaving one after the other till it was remaining the Alisons. “Where the f**k is Alexander” Dad asked angrily “He didn't come home after the wedding” One of the maid said. “What!!! What kind of man isn't present at his own wedding” Mom said “Well what do you expect him to do, he would rather be alone than to be seen with a….” Grandma said “Mom please stop it” Mom said, “Alexander is not a child, no one forced him into this marriage” The atmosphere was so heated and tense, I just sat there with mixed feelings and different thoughts running through my head.
