Chris' arms went limp and dropped uselessly to his sides, rose petals rustled off his fingertips, swirling down to scatter across the ground. He didn't even notice they were gone.
He texted his assistant for the location of Rose's apartment, then headed there alone. When he reached the building entrance, he spotted Rose right there, walking side by side with that man, both toting bags of fresh groceries, laughing and chatting as they climbed the stairs together.
