Laura's face went pale. She looked at Natalie, whose eyes were filled with hatred, and asked sadly, "Do you really hate me that much?" Natalie stared straight at her birth mother. Laura was in her forties but looked no older than thirty. To an outsider, they could have been mistaken for sisters. Without hesitation, Natalie hit her where it hurt. "I have no right to hate you. But I also don't want to see you again. The day you abandoned me at that orphanage sixteen years ago, we stopped being mother and daughter." For sixteen years, Laura had never once visited her.
