Iris jumped and yelled much louder than I would have liked. “He’s awake!” She lunged into the bed once more, hugging me tightly. “Still can’t breathe…” I muttered, but her enthusiasm did not relent. “You can breathe later,” she said as she repeatedly kissed my cheeks over and over. If I had to choose between kisses and breathing, the choice was obvious. But even as she kissed me, my stomach turned.
