Chapter 3 : Mr. Broken Promise

He slowly turned and looked down to me. He leaned over my shoulder, near my ear. He then slowly whispered something that I never thought would ever hear someone saying it to me. “I will protect you with my life as long as I am alive, Kira.” He then walked away from the booth and went outside the library. I was too scared to move and my mind became messy with so many thoughts.  ‘How did he know my name? What did he mean by that? Protect me with his life? As long as he is alive? What? Why?’ I debated between following him outside to demand answers and just sit back in my seat and wait until my shift ends. I finally decided that my work is more important that the stranger’s words. I locked the library door and went back to my booth. I mean, who knows what kind of creep will come in again. No one in this area ever comes to read here, so that door will stay closed until I clock out for the day at 11 pm. The day went by with me wasting my time wondering what Mr. Savior meant by what he said. I watched an episode of Eternal Monarch, yes I am also crazy about Korean drama, so don’t come at me. Everyone have their obsessions, right? I love to fantasize so books and dramas are my only way to escape from my cruel reality. My alarm rang and I grabbed my bag and laptop and clocked out. I switched off all the lights and air conditioners before locking the doors behind me. I glanced around to make sure the coast was clear before walking as fast as I can to my home, all the while staying in the shadows to avoid anyone seeing me. I am not sure whether the bad guys or Mr. Broken Promise stayed around to get all handy with me. Yup, I officially changed the name form Mr. Savior to Mr. BP a.k.a Mr. Broken Promise. Why broken promise you may ask? Well, obviously I am not going to be alive for a very long time as I am planning to end my life in another 11 months and 6 days, exactly on my birthday. Why? Simple, because my life sucks. I am an orphan and a loner. I have no friends, no relatives, no lover, but that is not my only reason. I am kind of sure that I only bring bad lucks to people. I seem to pass on my bad lucks to people who gets really close to me, so I decided it’s not worth it anymore. And he said he will protect me so obviously he is going to break that promise when I finally die hence that weird name for him. Anyway, I am near my studio when I saw a shadow in front of me. The street light make s it seem big and scary. I halted at my step and stood there, watching the shadow stop moving the same time as I did. I took a step forward and I heard one footstep behind me. Someone is following me. I took a deep breath and readied myself to run away. I broke into a sprint toward my studio and as expected I heard rapid footstep behind me as well. I fished out my key and kept running as if my life was at line. I reached my studio and open the door in record time.    I quickly unlocked my door to let myself in and slammed the door shut and locked it. I hunched down and tried to catch my breath. After a while, my breathing slowed down but my heart is still beating fast. Slowly, I straighten up and peeked through the door hole to see if the person who followed me reached my studio. Believe me when I say I was shocked to see the person on the other side of the door.
