Chapter 7: Distance and Disconnection

316 Words
Despite Ethan's reassurances, the presence of Sarah's ex-boyfriend, Mark, created a lingering tension between them. Sarah found herself caught between the echoes of her past and the promise of her future. Ethan, patient and understanding, gave her the space she needed, but the distance between them grew palpable. Days turned into weeks, and Sarah struggled to navigate the emotional turmoil. She continued to meet Mark occasionally, seeking the closure she desperately needed. Each encounter left her feeling more conflicted, the lines between past pain and present happiness blurring. One evening, after a particularly unsettling conversation with Mark, Sarah found herself standing in front of Ethan's apartment. She hesitated before knocking, her heart heavy with uncertainty. Ethan opened the door, his face lighting up briefly before concern clouded his eyes. "Hey, Sarah. Come in." Inside, Sarah paced the living room, trying to find the right words. "Ethan, I... I need to talk to you about Mark." Ethan nodded, his expression patient but tense. "Okay." "I've been meeting with him, trying to get closure," Sarah began, her voice trembling. "But every time I see him, it stirs up old emotions. I'm so confused, and I hate that it's affecting us." Ethan reached out, taking her hands in his. "Sarah, it's okay to feel confused. But you need to figure out what you really want. Do you still have feelings for him?" Sarah shook her head, tears welling in her eyes. "No, Ethan. I don't. But his reappearance has made me question everything. I just need some time to sort through my feelings." Ethan's grip tightened slightly, his eyes searching hers. "Take all the time you need, Sarah. But remember, I'm here for you. I believe in us." Sarah's heart ached at the sincerity in his voice. "I believe in us too, Ethan. I just need to find a way to close this chapter of my life for good."
