Another few months had passed before everything was on track to begin the expedition and start excavating. All the paperwork was finally ready, and they finally brought everyone on the team up to speed on certain protocols. Part of the deal with Mauritania included that the locals be allowed to partake in the actual excavation in order to help stimulate the economy of the country. That meant, of course, that the locals also had to be trained first, hence the main delay. Professor Thelete and his assistant, as well as the core of his inner team, were the last ones to depart for Mauritania. Most of the initial setup was complete, such as a secure perimeter for where they would stay, as well as much needed supplies to survive. There is no easy way to get to the site.
