*Amelia*
"So, you never told me where we were going."
I tried to hide my excitement but couldn't quite contain it. I can't believe I agreed to go through with this.
I can't complain, though, because I finally get to live out my dream as a real hockey player.
It sounds unreal even thinking about it.
It was five in the morning and we were three hours away from our destination.
We took my car because I didn't want to leave my baby or have to explain the situation to my brothers.
By my baby, I mean my new Lexus LC 500 in the color Infrared Metallic with custom gold wheels.
My little brother Tyler has been begging me to let him take it for a spin. My response is always hell no!
The insurance is high as hell on this car.
He better take himself down to the dealership and test drive one of theirs.
Besides, that man works in tech and makes over 200k a year. He chooses to drive that 2005 Toyota Camry that his mom left him.
Sure, I get the sentimental value, but he doesn't have to sell it. Just buy a second car that you want and keep the old one, too.
I was currently in the passenger side trying not to bounce up and down.
My inner child is screaming with joy right now. I needed to get it out before we made it to Liam's place so I decided to let out the girliest scream I could.
"EEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPP!!!!!"
Coach swerved the car on the highway before getting back in control and shouting at me.
"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT AMELIA! Geesh, are you trying to get us killed before we get there? What is wrong with you?"
He was glaring at me and trying to keep his eyes on the road, but I didn't care.
Nothing could kill my vibe right now.
"I'm sorry, coach..... but I just can't hold it in. I'M SO f*****g EXCITED!"
This time I did bounce in my seat.
I've never in my life been this excited about anything.
Not even winning a skate competition made me this happy.
"Well, reel in it, dammit. We can celebrate later. I didn't even think you made those kinds of girly squeals."
He gave me a side eye and a frown.
"Maybe this isn't such a good idea after all. What was I thinking?"
He was mumbling to himself but I knew he didn't mean it.
"Well, it's too late to turn back now. We're already halfway there and besides, you know you're just as excited to see me put some egotistical ass grown men on their asses."
I saw a smirk that turned into a full-on grin, and I knew I hit the nail on the head.
"You better give 'em hell, Melly. Or should I say...... Melvin Stone."
My smile dropped instantly, making Coach let out a roar of a laugh. I'm glad he could get a laugh at my expense.
"Ha ha ha."
I gave him a stale face that sent him into another fit of laughter.
"Tell me that's not the name you came up with."
Now I'm the one glaring while he's wiping the tears from his eyes.
"That was all Liam but I admit I couldn't wait to see your face when I told you it."
He was trying to hold in his laughter as he defended the dumb name.
"You've got to be kidding me"
As if it wasn't enough that I had to pretend to be a boy, now I had a stupid name to go with it.
"I'm dead serious, and before you ask, no it cannot be changed. Liam already got your access card on file in that name.
The story is you are my illegitimate son who I just found out about six months ago, and you are coming to get to know my side of the family.
"We've got you a wig to match our hair color since our genes are pretty strong and we don't want anyone connecting the dots on who you are. Especially considering your face is in magazines and we don't know who the hell reads them in that nosy ass town. The eyes we can get away with and a couple other features that we can blame on your mother."
That made me snort.
"Yeah, more like all the other features. Are all the men in your family freakishly huge like you?"
His quick glance at me was a dead giveaway.
"Not everyone is this big..... per se. The women in our family aren't....... at least not the ones who are married into the family. That's beyond the point though. This will work out. Everything will work out fine.
"No one will ask too many questions, and if they do, tell them to get a f*****g life and mind their own damn business. They'll know right away you're an Adams, and if you want the DNA to match 99.99999%, throw in a 'Go f**k yourself'. That'll seal the deal for sure."
He chuckled to himself.
"Are all the men in your family assholes as well?"
I raised an eyebrow at him.
"Oh absolutely. The older they are the less they give a damn about anyone other than themselves."
At this point, he was grinning, so I couldn't tell if he was serious or not. If he was, it wasn't anything that I wasn't used to.
"So stay quiet, but if I do have to open my mouth, make sure I make someone cry. Okay, got it."
I shrugged my shoulders.
Whatever it took to live out my dream was fine with me.
"Pretty much, and since this is temporary, it's not a guarantee that you'll actually play at any of the games. However, you will be very involved in practice.
"You're coming in a little late, and they've had a few games already, so Liam doesn't want to ruin their winning streak right now. He'll push your limits as hard as he can, but he should know that with me being your coach there is absolutely nothing he can throw at you that you can't handle."
He had a proud look on his face that made me happy at the confidence he had in me.
"Yeah, you're right about that. You've pretty much trained me like a guy, and that's why it's hard for the other girls to try and pull the stunts that I do in competitions."
I smirked.
"Not to mention, you've kicked just about every man's ass in hockey in your hometown. You'll be great in West Florida."
"So, that's where we're going, huh?" I chuckle.
"Yea. You're gonna love it."
He had a warm smile on his face as he was obviously having a good memory.
"I sure hope so."
I settled back into my seat and let the excitement rest in my heart.
Now this is what I call a joy ride!
