Chapter four

At the time, I had no idea how right he was. We left at once to the old church. Since I saw that Johnathan had been soaked to the bone, I figured that he had first walked to my house and did not find me there, so he thought I would be at Joshua’s house and he walked there.

I knew without a doubt that it was one mile from the church to my house, it was one mile from my house to Joshua’s house, but I had no idea how far it was from his house to the church.

The whole way to the church, I could not shake the feeling that we were being followed, but every time I turned around, there was no one there.

By the time we got to the church, Johnathan and I were completely soaked through. I took my seat at the head, and Johnathan took his, to the right of me.

For a split second, I had thought I had seen someone behind a pillar, but then I thought that my mind was just playing tricks on me.

“I know that it is very late,” Johnathan had started to say when I heard a startled cry

“Spy.” Shouted Andrew Williams “Someone needs to go and make him duel for spying on us.”

“No,” I said calmly “Let the stranger speak for himself. Come on out and speak.”

When he came out into the circle and removed his cloak so we could see his face, I let out a gasp.

“Joshua!” I cried “What are you doing here?”

“Hold on,” Thomas said “You know this man My Liege?”

“Of course I know him.” I said “He is my fiancé.”

“Well,” Joshua started “When that man” he pointed to Johnathan “When he wanted to speak with Anna alone, I was not sure if I could trust the content of their conversation, so I listened in at the door. However, I could not hear much anyway, all I heard was them going to some church and then they left. So, like any other man who was engaged, I followed them. But, never in wildest imagination did I ever expect this. Anna, it seems that I do not even know who you are, but I cannot believe that you would lie to me like this.”

He turned to leave when I said, “Joshua, wait please. I am so sorry that I lied to you but I had no choice. There are so many things that you do not understand. I wanted to tell you but there are so many lives at stake. Not just my life, but yours, and theirs, and so many others. If I told you everything about me, there would be consequences that are irreversible. There is something else must know. Look at my hands.”
