I went upstairs to get some clothes, a map, and my sword. I came back down the stairs and sure enough, he was waiting at the front door with an umbrella.
“Ready?” He asked
“Yes” I replied
We left for his house in the pouring rain. It took two hours in the rain to get to his house. We stopped in front of the closed gate. The guard came rushing out to us.
“Open it.” Joshua said forcefully
“Yes sir.” The guard said
We then rode to the stables so Joshua could put the horses away. Then he escorted me to his mansion. He took my cloak to the coat closet then he took my bag upstairs as well as change out of his wet things. I walked into the foyer and someone had caught my eye, and it happened to be the prince.
“Hello Anna.” Anthony said
“Hello, Your Highness” I replied with an awkward curtsy, thinking that I must look pretty silly because I was soaking wet.
“Please Anna,” He started to say
“I know, I know” I said. “I am sorry Anthony.”
“It is alright.” He replied “But what are you doing here?”
“Joshua did not want me to be home all alone in this storm.” I replied
“Oh,” He sighed, “That was very kind of him.”
He looked at me with the same expression that Joshua does.
“Anthony,” I sighed “You know very well that I am Joshua’s. I love him and he loves me. You and I, we are just friends, and that is only because you are Joshua’s friend.”
He turned from me, looking sad at first then enraged that someone would dare refuse him, and then the sadness returned. After a moment longer, Joshua returned, and Anthony’s pleasant mood returned, though something flickered in his eyes. Jealousy maybe?
————————————————————————
Just then the front doors opened and a man walked in drenched in rain. I could not see his face until he took off his hat. The moment I saw his face and deep blue eyes I knew who it was and I gave a smile brighter than the moon shining bright on a clear, cold autumn night.
“Johnathan,” I said, clearly glad to see that my friend was here, “What brings you here?”
“I came to see you, naturally.” He said and looked around for a moment and then replied again in a more serious tone and manner “I must speak with Anna alone if you do not mind.”
Joshua looked at Johnathan then he looked at me, then back at Johnathan. I chuckled to myself because I figured out why Joshua was looking at me that way. He must have thought that somehow, someway I had fallen in love with Johnathan.
“It is alright Joshua, it is probably something important.” I said to reassure Joshua that nothing was wrong.
He sighed and looked at me for a moment longer then he and Anthony went off into another room. Johnathan looked around to make sure that we were alone, then he said in a hushed voice, “Anna, we need you to come to the church for an emergency meeting. I am afraid that we have grave news and we need you.”
“What is the matter?” I asked curious to know any information beforehand
“I cannot tell you now.” He replied
“Why not?” I said near shouting
“I will tell you Anna, but at the moment I am not completely sure that we are alone.” He replied
