My fingers itch to touch her, but she’s still all bundled up in her thick coat and scarf. I push her hair over her shoulder and my fingertips brush her neck. “Please make yourself at home. I want you to feel as comfortable as possible.” She looks up at me, her green eyes searching mine, my hand still brushing her neck, and I step in a little closer. I feel her tense, so I immediately step back but press a soft, barely-there kiss against her cheek. “I’ll see you downstairs in a few. I’m just across the way if you need me.” I walk out of the room and when I look back, her hand is lifted to her face where I kissed her. It’s late but Gunner and I are still wired from the game.
