"I did not want to consummate the marriage because you didn't love me," Cassian said, his voice steady, but I could sense a tinge of something—hesitation, maybe? I tilted my head, narrowing my eyes at him. "And Jennifer? Did she love you?" A slow, lazy smile spread across his face, the kind that always made me question what was going on behind those piercing blue eyes. He leaned back slightly, folding his arms across his chest as if amused by my question. "Jennifer," he said, drawing out the name, "was never about love." That answer made me frown, but it also made something in me relax. I wasn't sure if it was relief or something else. Either way, I was done dancing around it.
