Chapter 39 – Missing Heart

1660 Words
The impact Xenon received from slamming right into the statues up to the walls greatly injured his external and internal armor chassis. He forced his structure to transform into defender mode the moment he discerns the adversary they faced. “Accelerating Combustion Buster: Defender Mode!” Xenon geared up the level of photon layers on the shield and maximize it towards the limit. “Alisa!” Eirisse sharpened her claws when she saw Alisa controlling the undead that was buried in the chamber. “How about a taste of my undeath’s strength?” Alisa caressed the posterior of the giant undead skeleton which had an enormous cleaver that caught Xenon off guard. Eirisse was prepared to strike for the heart from behind, but it does not turn out as she expected when Alisa vanished from the shadows. “Show yourself!” Eirisse snapped from such cunning elusiveness. She predicted Alisa's movement but she did not see what's coming from beside her. “Accept this!” Alisa instantly cuffed chains on Eirisse's hands. She knelt down from the loss of strength. She couldn't move nor crawl. “You witch of the underworld! How a necromancer like you had the Ethereal Chains?!” Eirisse couldn't foresee the unfortunate. Alisa is a mage of death and life. A necromancer can freely manipulate the undead and control them exactly when they were still alive. Eirisse just did not assume someone like her had access to an ancient artifact called the Ethereal Chains. The chains of the divine artifact that can restrain a vampire for all eternity. Even with Eirisse's Revenant Metamorphosis, she is subjected to her weakness for who she was. “How? Who knows? Should I say, who cares?” Alisa drawled taunting Eirisse. “Now Deriar, place her on the cross.” She gestured a chant of magic and the dust of the other undead she was controlling lumped up together to form a cross made out of bone beside the coffin itself. The man appeared from the shadows of the statues. He bowed down with respect before commencing Alisa's command. The vulnerable Eirisse can't even resist when Deriar dragged her towards the cross. “Deriar! You're being manipulated, stop this at once!” Claren desperately tried to stop him but Deriar can't even hear his wife's words. “Move closer to him and my undead shall scourge your mortal form. He is under my spell so there's no way you can bring him back,” Alisa grinned with delight seeing how the love of the two can't bring them back together. Aside from her necrotic magic affinity, she was called the Loveless Revenant because she accumulates pleasures whenever she sees the suffering of those who had a deep love for each other. The excruciating pain of someone important. The idea of death that a passionate person can no longer see their loved ones is merely her dessert of pleasure. The main dish is when partakes the love of their life as she steals their romance, that is the curse she fell upon. “Eirisse! I will use my Revenant form! Fighting fire with fire is what Alisa wanted,” Xenon jerked his weapon ready to reveal his trump card. Deriar finished up his task on placing Eirisse on the cross. It was as if a witch was sentenced to death by flames. “No! Never do it...! Escape right now with Claren, and tell the others about it!” Eirisse insisted. The fact that Alisa is the adversary they are facing, Xenon is well aware of her capabilities even without her Revenant Metamorphosis. He knew that she was the only Revenant who can control her curse but for a short amount of time. Her necromancer magic is not something that can be easily dealt with. There's no telling if Xenon himself can fully control his Revenant Metamorphosis. It's similar to a gamble where there are no winners, only losers are. Xenon was under the distress of choosing the best course of action. He plans to instead perform an overdrive charge when the ground started to tremble. Following to the opened ceiling and upwards towards the surface of Ravina City, a crevice was formed. “Finally! The light of Solara shall shower us the blessing!” Deriar was exhilarated. He set a shard that was shimmering its own umbral reflection on the last orb's placement. “That was the Shard of Shadow!” Xenon couldn't believe they have managed to steal the shards that Luciella had. “You're right Xenon. The representation of Shard of Flame will be Solara, and the Shard of Frost will be Lunara, together with Shard of Shadow, the eternal red sky shall be awakened!” Alisa boasted their entire plan. The path of the moonlight is opened because Laken and Luciella took care of placing the wards in the south and east gate while the sisters went to set up the other torches in the north and west gate. “Get out of here now!” Eirisse screamed to let Xenon escape before it's too late, but he heard the opposites. Xenon comprehended more than anyone that she wanted help. That she desired for a hero to save her from her imminent doom. The blame was solely his guilt, Xenon choice was been clarified. He was going to fly towards the hole to call for the others when a massive object came crashing down from the crevice. He thought there was no hope. His will has regained back when he saw the gallant silhouette of a man who had a sword on his back, together with the other three. Now they are finally regrouped to finish what they started, “We are here now!” Laken grasps his sword for regrouping preparation in tow. “Eirisse we'll save you now!” Luciella's determined. “And that's our shards! How dare they steal it from us!” Lena blustered and wanted to charge rashly but Xenon halted her. “Don't! Those are the skeletons of the vampire progenitors. They are powerful enough to knock me down,” Xenon warned them. Alisa's undead army has the power not just to manipulate the dead but to reanimate the abilities and legacy of the lifeless form. The level of her necromancy can rival the top archwizards of the Tower of Sorcerers. “Tsk. Deriar I will leave things to you, make sure do as I commanded you before,” Alisa reassured to make sure Deriar shall accomplish the plan up to the end. “Yes, I shall do so my queen,” Deriar bowed down. “Remember you all here, we are the Midnight Pentagram, we are everywhere, and the doom shall fall upon this cursed world!” Alisa gestured and she vanished from thin air. The only problem is that her undead was still in the chamber interrupting in their way. “As I suspected, you were the one who stole the shards and the queen you were talking is Alisa right?” Laken groaned out of finding the missing piece of the puzzle. “Don't address the queen so lightly! The Midnight Pentagram only serves as her sword, for the world she wished for!” Deriar pulled a knife that has the same property as the Ethereal Chains. “You were wrong. No one can wield the shards, let alone use its power,” Laken surely stated the truth. Duke Deriar refused to believe the fact and rather held his delusions Alisa gave him. “You're sharp aren't you? How did you know he has stolen a shard on Luciella's pocket?” Lena questions in astonishment. “He didn't steal it, we let him,” Laken simply answered, “Now you're going to extract her blood?” He questions where he already knew the answer. “You're right! Eirisse Cadence, the last vampire progenitor who is pureblood... nothing can stop me now!” Deriar revealed the truth. The others couldn't believe that the Eirisse they knew was one of the legendary progenitors. Laken isn't surprised anymore, for he knew the truth all along. He's disingenuous to the fact that he thought Eirisse was always not showing her true strength so they won't suspect she's a progenitor. The Ethereal Chains are made to restrain the reign of the progenitor during the Dark Wars. It's a top-tier artifact that rendered the vampiric essence of the ancients. The sole vampire progenitor who survived during their sacrifice was her. She was standing all alone. Wandering aimlessly with nothing. Not thinking about the future or any of sorts. It's as if she forgot to feel any kind of emotions. There's nothing she could do, Eirisse preferred to be isolated far from anyone. She hated the fact that she wanted to seclude herself and couldn't find any reasons for her choice. Laken knew of this when they were still adventuring together. Eirisse got drunk at that time and she told him everything. Eirisse stayed to not say the truth. She doesn't want to be shunned and separated. She only wanted someone who could give her the warmth of love, and a heart of gold that will never wither. Duke Deriar stabbed Eirisse on her chest so her blood will stream to the shards. To his surprise, and everyone else in the chamber, they all behold a woman who had a hole in her chest. Not only it was a sight to see, Laken understood the secret she was been hiding. Eirisse Cadence, who had a missing heart all along doesn't want her comrades to see her miserable self. She never had the heart to feel the pain and sorrow nor happiness and joy. She was standing at her feet unable to feel even a single beat of emotions. That was the curse she received. The overcast skies of Ravina City majestically cleared up. The night was young as the moonlight of Solara bless them the evening they can see once in a few years. Laken knew that the wards are artifacts that clear up the clouds of the Ravina as well as to open up the crevice underground. The citizen pays their respect to the progenitors who protected them during the war by showering them with flowers. The shackle of the truth is no longer bounded. Eirisse knew she can't keep the secret forever. Laken engulfed his right arm with his azure flames and took his sword the moment Eirisse shed a teardrop. The flames that never hurt the others but burns his body and soul to the core. He grasped the blade of the undying. He will smite down those who hurt Eirisse in the worst possible way.
