Chapter 73 – Soulless Revenant

1692 Words
The day was quite awful due to balakhian soldiers attacking Eagleborn and after accompanied by heavy rainfall. Xenon is a mechanoid defender so he can easily h****k Tetra's aircraft detector without taking its administrative privileges. He detected a large, tremendous identified flying object passes the encompassed airspace around the vicinity of her house. His defender instinct made him switch to his Sniper Mode which is his specialty, to intercept the unknown foe approaching faster than a mechanoid defender's speed. Unluckily, he couldn't gather enough sunlight energy to charge up his Stargazer naturally. That's why he instead accumulates a large amount of his energy to assail the enemy at a safe distance like the sniper he is. His mechanical armor chassis is fully designed to withstand harsh forecast and for safely hovering the clouds and skies as an artificial lifeform, mobile Skyguard defender. After tweaking some complex settings between his shoulders, his eyes turned color blue. His silver hair is swayed by the amount of wind force, it was the moment he carefully looked at the enemy. He changed the settings of his eyes so instead of thermal sensor which he used to see if his comrades caught a cold, now he utilized his perception as a long-distance scope to check the exact coordinates of the unidentified object. "Changing altitude below the level of the clouds... activating telescopic lenses at a thousand percent." Xenon determined the enemy's coordinates though he can only see its silhouette. The moment the foe he wants to bringdown swiftly emerged from the clouds, he saw an enormous nature dragon that has thick layers of scales. Its horns are pitch-black dimming his green skin and ferocious eyes. "Holy molly." Xenon yanked his Stargazer a second and third time until its energy output is nearing fifteen percent. He made sure that a single shot with his rifle can at least penetrate its hardened scale. Amongst the kinds of dragons, the nature dragons have tougher skins and plates. But because of their rarity considering they are gentle and don't usually randomly attack small villages, the dragonslayers can't just hunt their kind on a whim nor out of justice. Laken's armor is made out of a black dragon's scale. Fire dragons and black dragons always attack villages for fun that's why they are hunter's first target. One can't just underestimate the formidable strength of a dragon. They are at the pinnacle of survivability since ancient times and even the Astral Kingdom can't claim the dragonkin as their beasts. Even Xenon understands there's only a slight chance his one-trick shot would work. But even so, he didn't falter nor fall back. The pride of a mechanoid defender aerial combat specialist won't let himself be defeated in his own sky battlefield. The second his Stargazer has the perfect shape and energy output, he jerked his weapon and shouted, "Maximum Energy Discharge: Particle Beam!" Xenon pulled the trigger and a massive beam of light without delimiter crosses the skyline at the speed of light. The recoil caused minor damage to his interior armor. He clearly saw through his lens that his shot directly hit the head of the dragon. It formed a thick amount of black clouds around the dragon's vicinity causing his telescope to be sight-shaded. Raindrops pattered against his alloy armor, together with the flicking sound of red-signal from his energy limiter indicating he used too much energy. He doesn't have any strength left to even provide electricity through his thrusters for flying. Before he could see if the dragon fell or not, he gradually and fastly changes altitude as he is already falling. The moment he's about to hit the terrain, Tetra came like an eagle pouncing Xenon's arm before he could meet demise. Tetra saved him at the nick of time. She placed him on the grasses while Laken's party and Eris came at Xenon's landing coordinates. His hibernation mode is nearing on its activation. He takes a glimpse from the sky to see the dragon one more time. Accepting his defeat, the nature dragon didn't even have a single scratch from where Xenon hit it with a bullseye. It's literally unharmed and still flying towards their location. Eirisse went beside Xenon to make amends, "Mana Spring..." She chanted a spell to rejuvenate him with mana so he can activate his auto-repair function properly. "Jeez. I told you to stop. Look at what happened to you, foolishly tried to intercept a dragon." Tetra chortled as if ridiculing Xenon's sorry state. "Run everyone..." Xenon muttered and he activated his auto-repair nevertheless. To his surprise, they weren't bothered as he watched the nature dragon make a landing on the spacious greenery. Each flutter of its ginormous wings has enough strength to propel them strongly. The troubled Xenon couldn't help himself but try to stop Tetra from approaching the dragon. No voice came out of his mouth as his energy level is too low. He's confused why Laken, Luciella, and Eirisse aren't taking countermeasures upon the adversary in front of them. After the nature dragon perched against the grasses, it descended his head down to the level of the terrain. Tetra caresses the scales where Xenon hits the dragon with a particle beam as if showing deep care. She greeted the dragon, "I'm sorry I wasn't fast enough to stop that small fry. Despite everything, welcome home my husband!" At first, it took them at least three seconds to properly work their minds, but what Tetra said boggled everyone's thoughts and couldn't believe if it's actually real. The nature dragon's body began to radiate glimmers of green fireflies, he gradually transformed itself into the size of a human. What unveiled before their presence was a man with slicked-back green hair and eyes. He had a brown complexion much darker than of Alisa's and nice-looking face with his chiseled jaw. His draconic black horns sticking out of his upper forehead, and his long scaled tail wagging left and right is quite charming. He cheerfully embraced Tetra and even nuzzled against her hair, "Thanks for the warm welcome Tetra, I appreciate it." Luciella and Eris couldn't fathom that a mechanoid and a dragonkin are in such a kind of intimate relationship. The menacing dragon before them was rather fond of Tetra to the point they were left speechless. Laken stepped forward twice and called him out, "Thalfeur?! What the heck are you doing?" They were being so close to each other, Tetra's just in the middle of enjoying it when he heard Laken's voice from afar. He parted his embrace and checked the surroundings. He recognized Eirisse, Alisa, Laken, and Xenon from the ground with his extending arms repairing some internal malfunction. Thalfeur knew the asrial lady is Eris, but what caught his attention was the elf which is literally Luciella beside Laken and that he didn't know her name yet. Though he didn't bother about Iser and Alisa for a few reasons. Maybe because Iser has such menacing stare with his eyeless skull as if telling he shouldn't get near his master. Thalfeur instead rushed towards Eirisse first who was glaring at him with contempt. When he was going to reach her, Eirisse eluded and hissed at him, "Touch me and I'll extract your blood in a cask." "I really missed you!" Thalfeur was desperate. Eirisse doesn't like his flirty demeanor. Her alter-ego slipped from her personality without even her Revenant Metamorphosis; showing how much she dislikes him. Thalfeur had no choice but to approach Eris instead but she also evaded, "Master Thalfeur, not today please!" "No way!" He stoops in sorrow as he only wanted to embrace them. But then again he takes a gander of the elf lady again who was hiding behind Laken. "Hey..." Thalfeur approached her and noticed the length of her ears, "You're a half-elf?!" He was pretty surprised just as much as she was. "Y-Yes..." Luciella meekly answered. Thalfeur whistled at her while he strokes his hair behind trying to make an appeal. "Well, would you like me to escort you to the greatest coffee shop here in Archreverie? We'll just talk and–" concurrently while he talks, Laken gave him a head-chop for him to stop hitting on Luciella. Even the mighty ancient nature dragon couldn't escape Laken's head-chopping technique. He covered for Luciella since he knew Thalfeur's personality "You're still a womanizer alright. Luciella's just eighteen years old so I'll detach your head if ever you tried such downright moves again on her," Laken placed the sword he grasps on Thalfeur's left shoulder to prove he's dead serious. "I'm joking! I don't want to die by the sword I forged. So, would you accept my apology... what's your name then?" Thalfeur would never mean to apologize for it and only wants to identify her name, which is what Laken thinks of it. "Hm... I'm Luciella Valor Leblanc Vermillion." Luciella properly introduces herself. "The name's Thalfeur Dirophald, Soulless Revenant; glad to meet 'ya." Thalfeur also told his name for the sake of formality. When Luciella heard his name, she remembered the guy they needed to find. Xenon just finished repairing his own state but he already changes personality. He confronted Thalfeur not to apologize, simply to tell him off, "Changing attribute: serious... It turns out it was you huh." Everyone might have hidden questions and Eirisse just has to say her's out loud, "I know you have different woman left and right, but mind explaining why are you in a relationship with Tetra?" "Yeah! I would like to know too." Eris was curious as well. He was going to answer them with his lofty attitude when Tetra herself butted in while carrying a paper bag of goods Thalfeur got for her, "Let's continue this later. I don't want to spoil these vegetables and ingredients he bought." For good's sake, Thalfeur had to transform into his dragon form just so he could run an errand. It's almost surreal by the fact they were together. They don't have any clue what are these two have in common. Everyone just went back to her home again. At least Laken understands they don't need to search for Thalfeur anymore. Their sub-quest has been taken care of and he can now focus on the pressing matters. As long as the burning azure flame isn't extinguished yet, so does his resolution remains undying. He knew it must be the work of destiny, and he shall face what ordeal the fate will throw at him like he always does.
