Chapter 37 – Truth Behind

1618 Words
The task at hand was given. Laken, Luciella, and the sisters are taking care of placing the wards in all four gates which is tremendously tiresome. The scale of Ravina City is quite the same with Frostwolf City unless they had a carriage but they left it outside the inn. Meanwhile, Eirisse and Xenon were winded up in an unknown place. The room is dark and dusty. There's not much light coming from the iron lattice. It must be the underground dungeon's prison but in a different room since they just arrived in their confinement before Laken and the others. “Ahh... My head hurts,” Eirisse drawled. She has woken up from her slumber and clearly remembers that a sleeping potion infused-needle sank on her neck's surface. Eirisse removed her eyeglasses and kept it on her waist belt pocket so it won't get in the way. Whenever she enters on her Metamorphosis, her eyesight becomes better. Beside her, she noticed the snoring Xenon who is actually enjoying his doze under hibernation mode. Eirisse first gathered strength in her right hand and she heavily slapped his face to forcibly wake him up. “Automatic recovery mode. Restarting functionality overload,” he woke up just like an awakened mummy with his monotonic tone. The clanking gears and steam came sounded like a broken machine in his chest. It's just mechanoid's features where he saves his memory before the time of his forced hibernate. Eirisse is still amazed at how combined alloys and some magic artifacts can replicate a whole another personality. She treats Xenon like other living beings. It means for her that there are things in this world that shouldn't need to comprehend and rather just accept what comes wholeheartedly. She gave him another slap and he definitely went back on track, “Should I say, ouch, at a time like this?” Xenon inquired like someone who lost their memory. Eirisse thought there's something wrong in his head so she's going to smack him up for more but Xenon kind of bailed out. “I'm joking alright! My head is precious don't just hit it as Laken does, sheesh,” Xenon argued. He crawled out of the corner to be safe of Eirisse's brutal personality. Xenon scanned her whole figure. Her hair's longer than usual with fangs sticking out of her mouth. He just realizes she's under her Revenant Metamorphosis that's why her personality suddenly became cruel and ruthless. “When did you activated your Metamorphosis?” Xenon's tweaking his mechanical parts. Eirisse sighed, “I felt a projectile coming towards us faster than my sense.” “What happened?” Xenon inquired. “I planned to resist the poison by entering Metamorphosis so I bit my tongue to receive blood, but it was a blunder since I was too early and the needle pierced on my neck right after the transformation,” Eirisse tousled her own hair in irritation. Xenon habitually changed personality that he might regret later, “Changing attribute: stupid... you're just plain dumb! Now we are confined in this place, what should we do?” Xenon's rant literally was swayed by his emotions. What Xenon said truly got on Eirisse's nerves. She forcibly grabbed his face and threw his body on the metal bars. It was completely destroyed even the walls of the cell in front of their confinement cage. Xenon geared up his chest again. He turned his personality where he is afraid of Eirisse's alter ego. He frighteningly crawled in corner of the confinement room he was thrown with and was scared to death. “Please spare my life! Get away from me!” Xenon begged and he doesn't know what he is saying. “Oh yeah?! How come you were put to sleep when you're a mechanoid?! I'm gonna kill you and devour your Arcanum Core!” Eirisse doesn't mean what she says when under the influence of Metamorphosis. “Obviously they smack my head with a heavy object that forced me on hibernation!” Xenon talked back but regretted it again when Eirisse revealed her sharp nail claws. He heard a deep groan when he was at the edge of his imminent demise as Eirisse's approaching him. He was completely shocked more when he saw a woman who looks exactly like a witch grabbed his right arm and said, “Help... please...” the woman's voice is dying. “Ah–” Eirisse closed off Xenon's mouth before he could shout. She knew his shriek is worse than chalk that is forcibly brushed on a blackboard. “Silence!” Eirisse huffed. She instantly went to see the woman's condition. The woman had a surprisingly noble-looking garment. Her wounds and bruised were very serious. She looks pale than Eirisse herself. Her black hair was tousled badly and that she is presumably subjected to t*****e. Eirisse bit her lip in resentment. She can't stand that they were doing such a cruel thing to her in such a shady place. Thankfully she had vials of health and mana potions hidden under her garments. Even if she doesn't have any healing magic like Luciella, the potions would suffice as first aid. She let her drink through the vials. The potions she creates are certainly potent. “Are you okay now?” Eirisse probed the woman. Her sentimentality vanishes when under her curse but doesn't mean she lost the reasoning to help somebody. “Ahh... I thank you for saving me...” she's only weakened far from losing a life. “Xenon can you set an illusion magic field in this cell? I hear a group of people in all directions going in this area. Also, scan the dungeon's whole structure so we can get out later,” Eirisse requested. Xenon changed attribute to serious, “Right away. Discharging energy photon. Illusion field activated,” he waved his hand and a photon of magical field engulfed the cell's metal bars as if it was never been broken out. “They can't hear nor see us under this field unless they stepped inside. I gotta prepare the full navigation of the dungeon's structure.” Xenon tweaked a few switches on his chest before doing a full blast area scan. The three of them witnessed veiled persons that had a mark of an eye on their arm. They just realized Xenon and Eirisse have escaped. It seems Xenon's facade is effective, “The captives have escaped! They shouldn't be that far!” commanded by one of their members and everyone dispersed searching for both of them. There's nothing that will bother them, Xenon began to make the structured holographic map of the dungeon. It's Eirisse's job is to seek information from the woman who was imprisoned. “It's fine now. Tell us who you are and what happened,” Eirisse's trying hard to be as calm as possible so she won't be afraid of her s******c personality. “I'm... Claren Warlace, wife of the Ducal Highness Deriar Warlace...” Even if she's weakened and her frail form can't afford a stand, she gracefully bowed down to show her respect. Eirisse wasn't quite surprised that an important person is confined in such a disturbing place. She's not convinced it's the only reason. “What's duchess doing in a place like this? Tell us right away,” Eirisse controlled the highness of her voice. The etched lines in the wall which are carved using her nails mean it's been months since Claren was imprisoned. The expression of fear trying to remember the past for her to answer Eirisse's question seems to stimulate her traumas at the extent of cowering in anxiety. Eirisse doesn't have any choice but to hold her trembling hands even if it's out of character for her. She began to sob and later she cried everything she handled. They stayed silent while waiting for her to calm down. When Claren was on her consciousness she didn't realize she's tightly embracing Eirisse who stiffly just letting her do as she pleases. Claren departed her arms on her back. Eirisse thought if only she's not in her Metamorphosis she would have embraced her and tell her it's fine now. “Now you're in the mood to talk I guess,” Eirisse is flustered and averts her face. It was Xenon's first time seeing a cute side of her under her cursed form. “I'm sorry... I was imprisoned here because I overheard a conversation,” Claren instigated the story behind. Duchess Claren told Eirisse and Xenon about the awakening of a greater power that Deriar explained to Laken and the rest. The fact that the cult wanted to use the Shards of Flame and Frost as an alternative for the missing orb, a progenitor's blood, and the light of Solara, the red moon is needed to get their hands on a perpetual ancient power. But Claren's story had a slightly different part than what her husband said to Laken. She clasped Eirisse's hands begging for help. “Duke Deriar is no longer himself. His plan to take over the Dethrim Kingdom and to repeat the Dark Wars is what he wished for. That's the sole reason I was locked up in here,” Claren was sobbing ceaselessly. She even knelt in front of them, “Please help end my husband's evil intention,” she asked firmly. Eirisse pulled her from kneeling and stated, “As long as it has our concern, we shall help.” Eirisse declared and the mixed feeling of Claren when she smiles is no longer bounded. “I promise to show my gratitude,” Claren told that got Xenon's greedy attention. Eirisse clanked up Xenon's head before he would have any idea of asking high amounts of golds. “How's your navigation doing?” Eirisse probed him. “This whole dungeon is deeper than I expected. I sense a tremendous flow of magic in a spacious room,” Xenon responded while he navigates the entire database of the dungeon's structure. “Then I guess that's the chamber where the shard is hidden. We'll charge through it and steal them before the sisters do so,” Eirisse implies as Xenon's scan is nearing one hundred percent. They both learned the true motives of the Ducal Highness. They are on their way to smash the dungeon and breakthrough the prison with the shards and to stop the cult's plan to awaken the power hidden beneath.
