Chapter 34 – Escape

The unknown was not yet unseen nor have been discovered. Not even the street lamps could reach the window of the dungeon. Laken woke up in an unfamiliar setting. He quickly searched for Luciella and thankfully she's beside him. Not only Luciella was there, but Lena and Luna somehow winded up with them. Laken ascertained the place is an underground prison which was used during the war on the past. What he couldn't believe that their stalker dared to d**g them with a sleeping potion they infused on a needle. Another stupid blunder he fell for is what he thought. Laken reckoned Xenon and Eirisse weren't caught because there's no way they can force hibernate a mechanoid and vampiric sense is off the scale that of a human's. There's no way they were captured so Laken should figure the exit before the keeper comes back to the cell to check on them. Lena just woke up only to be greeted by the eerie of the environment. The place is dusty and empty. There are piles of bones in the corner but she at least expected this would happen when she realized she was caught with her sister. Laken slowly tiptoed near the wall. He was trying to take a peek at the outside when he heard footsteps. He instantly came back to his exact position when he's still unconscious. He embraced Lena who got the gist of the situation to prevent her from making any kind of noise. Base on the sound waves and vibration of the ground, there are three men that are standing in front of the metal bars. They were talking about an important matter so Laken and Luna might as well listen while they were faking their slumber. “These are the captives, sir. Two draconian, a half-elf lady, and the man that should be a mercenary,” said a man with them. The sound of a heavy object hitting on his head was clear. The other guy might have been disappointed so he beat his servant as punishment. “I said to capture the red-headed woman with them!” the guy who was supposed to be their leader yelled in frustration. “But sir, the mechanoid defender with her is stronger than we expected. The sleeping vial didn't affect him,” another servant reasoned. Laken can definitely tell what is going on and the sound of the beating is enough for him to visualize the leader pounding his servants, bossing them around as he pleases. “Of course because they are mechanically created!” The leader told in a fiery tone. “Forget it. Make sure you extract the blood of these prisoners once they've woken up, and throw them away where I will never see them, so capture the real target,” he gave his servants another chance to make amends. “Yes, sir!” his servants are obliged to accept the task. They vanished without a single sound of footsteps together with the violent leader of them. Laken hated those kinds of somebody who would unhesitantly hurt others for their satisfaction and pride. “By any chance, were they talking about your vampire friend?” Lena wakes her sister up. “Without a doubt, it seems they wanted her for a reason. It will be fine since Eirisse's with Xenon,” Laken also nudged Luciella. “Where am I...?” Luna was startled when she saw the piles of bones near the corner. She hid on her sister's shadow. Lena also explained the circumstances they are under. “Hm...?” The moment Luciella shook her head and remembered what happened to her. She immediately searched on a pocket hanging on her waist belt. “Thankfully they are here,” Luciella felt relieved. She thought the Shards of Creation are gone so it's a good thing they are not stolen too. On the contrary, the fact that the shards Luciella holds aren't gone pertains to only one deduction; these culprits are targeting Eirisse for another reason. Which means they are not behind the stolen shards of Lena and Luna. He also suspects Eirisse from before. She's hiding something from everyone. They say every person has a secret they would never tell even to their friends. But Laken guesses it's a bigger thing than he expected. “Long story short, we were imprisoned so we need to get out of this place,” Laken told as an explanation to Luciella. “Since we are here, might as well use these to not make any noise,” Lena smirked in vanity. She pulled the white scales on her pocket which was literally the thing she's plucking on her sister's back hours ago. “Watch this,” Lena placed four scales on the gap of her fingers. With the blink of an eye, she adeptly swiped her hand in such speed, cutting the lock of their chamber while her tail catches the sliding metal bars so it won't make a sound. Another sleight-of-hand skill that amazes Luciella, though Laken's more astonished to the fact that a draconian's scale is sharp enough to slice tough objects. “For now, let's get out of here,” Lena beckoned everyone to make a move. They initiate a run towards the right hallway where they heard the footsteps earlier as silently as possible. They were proceeding to the exit next to the end of the narrow corridor when Luciella stopped at the last compartment, “What are you looking there? Let's get out of here,” Lena whispered in a silent tone to prevent unnecessary reverberating noise. “Wait...” Luciella got caught up in it. They also came as well to check who's inside the cell. It was a surprisingly handsome-looking guy that had quite flashy clothing that defines his position in the higher society. He is slender. His garment is soiled and his skin's much paler than of any vampire. It could probably cause by starvation and drought considering he's a prisoner. He also had the bruises and wounds of someone who was tortured using a whip. The prisoner despairingly crawled on the ground when he heard footsteps but he couldn't reach the metal bars, “Please... help...” he pleaded for help with his fading voice. Luciella's desire to aid him was already drawn on her eyes when Laken tries to drag her since they needed to get out of the place as quickly as possible. He didn't do so, instead, he looked onto Lena, and she knew what she needed to do. Lena skillfully cut open the lock of the cage but she accidentally slipped one of the metal bars when she tried to catch all of it with her tail, “Oopsie,” her grin became crooked. Seconds later they heard footsteps coming from the left and right entrance. Laken carried the prisoner on his back as he wielded his sword, “There's no turning back now, prepare for battle!” Laken declared and made a dash towards the right exit posthaste. “The captives have escaped! Capture them at once!” the commanding guard shouted from afar. Laken was startled when he recognized the people who dared to capture them also had a mark of an eye on their arm. “Frost Enchant...!” Luna invoked an enchant type magic on everyone along with the prisoner they saved. Laken felt the cold layer of magic enveloping on his skin up to his nook and cranny. “It's a defensive spell to prevent the needles from sinking on our skin...” Luna shyly explains. “Some helpful magic you got there, I'll buy you a moon bun after once we got out of this mess as my thanks,” Laken marked his words. He stabs anyone who dares to move closer. Luna was grateful she could be of help. Together with her sister, they bring the agony of ice and flames to those who audaciously took them in such a stinking place. They were undoubtedly separated with Xenon and Eirisse in unprecedented circumstances. Laken and Luciella together with the sisters will push forward to escape in the underground dungeon they were confined with.
