Chapter 58 – Fulfilling Promise

1745 Words
The battle they have undertaken is the chamber inside the deeper part of the Reshlinfeur Dungeon. Eerie elements pervade the place where Alisa isolated her physical form because of the curse she never wished for. Laken is in a situation where he is about to seize the hand of his beloved sister. He still remembers the lingering memories they shared together, that even if the whole world hated her, he will accept her no matter how many times it takes. He understands more than anyone that it was not her fault that she betrayed him and the rest. Alisa was the victim of the corruption of the darkness that happened during the Dark Wars, she has a reason to uphold because she believed. She may have deceived her comrades, but the world betrayed her too without them knowing how painful to be all alone, only observing as the ghost of the past. Laken fathoms everything she felt and experienced, that is why the moment he finally found the cage she curled herself over, that was the time his burning azure flames becomes the fire that shall shatter the ideology known as fate. “You cannot escape my scythe Bloodless Revenant!” Barbaros did not waste any more seconds, he blended right through the spatial dimensions around the proximity. When he found the perfect chance, Barbaros swings his scythe at the perfect angle, “Rip the very fabric of time and space: Dark Star!” “Severe!” Laken quickly deflected the blade of Barbaro's scythe with the blunt of his sword. “Fast, but not enough!” Barbaros snaps his finger, the exact same space where he gashed the air becomes an unstoppable black hole that draws anything around the place. “That is a true dark star that came from heaven! No one can escape it once they are inside my magic.” Barbaros laughed hysterically as if he had already achieved victory. Alice and Zoroaster together with Luciella, Eirisse, and Xenon were fine behind the backline. Laken's position is next to the black hole itself and is about to be devoured alive when they can't believe what he did. “Don't do that!” Alice warned him but Laken firmly seizes the source of the pure dark star with his very hand burning in azure flames. She comprehends the spell is very dangerous magic that anything it absorbed shall be rendered to nothingness. However, they were all astonished when the very magic itself began to burn, and when Laken jerked his arm, the spell was completely vaporized. “God itself cannot manipulate my fate, and you expected the heavens could shackle me once more? How foolish of you Barbaros.” Laken mocked him, he casually walks where he was hiding. “How problematic. You may be the Bloodless Revenant, but don't speak too highly human! I shall cut your tongue together with your soul!” Barbaros couldn't contain anymore that a mere human is overpowering a celestial. He blended in the spatial mass once more, hiding his presence so that he can perform another surprise attack. Barbaros was going to swing his scythe in an upside-down position when Laken reacted in an instant, “Consuming s***h!” It was too fast that Barbaros couldn't react, he tried to deflect but his scythe flung towards the pillar and before he could reach it, Laken leaped grabbing his feet and driving him to the floor with great force. “Argh...” Barbaros moaned from the impact when he was smashed on the floor, “There's no way that I...!” “Sleep well.” Laken parted his message before punching him right by the face with his burning arm. Barbaros was knocked down by the drive he took, he literally was rendered to his slumber. Now that the Dimension Reaper has been taken care of, Laken stands firm, taking casual steps where the mirrored self of Alisa is staying. The rest are doing just fine, the Nightbeasts are swarming them with numbers though there's nothing for Laken to worry about as there are two of the glorious Heavenly Heroes in the same chamber. “Why didn't you help him?” Laken questions. In front of him was Alisa, the Loveless Revenant who was smiling very warmly, “There is nothing to say anymore. The world we live in is doomed, and I shall be the reason it came true.” Alisa told filled with sorrow. “You are wrong...” Laken let loose the grip on his sword. Alisa steps forward, “Have you ever reached a star before?” She asked a riddle. “I haven't.” Laken simply answered. “The curse of corruption is taking over my material form, I shall be born as the queen of darkness because the fate deemed it to be true, there is nothing for me to–” Alisa halted what she was saying. Laken struck his sword to the ground and gave her the embrace she wanted, the warmth she longed for from the very start. “God, fate, darkness, destiny, who cares about that stuff? If fate said you needed to be the queen of the bastard Midnight Pentagram, then I might kill the fate itself!” Laken declared. He's not letting her go no matter what. Alisa giggled for a bit, she reciprocated him by giving him the same embrace, “You always make my wish come true... but I'm just the fragment of my memories...” She's also not letting him go because that is one of her wishes. They parted from each other after the tremors of the ground became much stronger. Alisa's mirrored form gradually becomes transparent as the corruption of the darkness creeps to her diamond cage. “Bloodless Revenant! Get out of there! I sensed an unidentified object will land towards there.” Zoroaster warned him. His ability to detect enemies surpasses Xenon's wide-area scanner. Laken immediately eluded and just as Zoroaster said the floor from above them were destroyed, the crumbles produced a thick mist in the chamber. “There's no changing the fate now, Laken...” Alisa said with her last seconds. Laken saw how Alisa's mirror ego dispersed from the specks of white dust illuminating her cage. The mist became clear and everyone in the room beholds the Nightbeast in the form of the dragon appeared before them. “Identifying Nightbeast Dragon's data: Dark Entity confirmed, initiating sniper mode.” Zoroaster was alarmed. His instinct to purge the Dark Entities in the world has driven his impulse to destroy it once and for all. Xenon notices Zoroaster harness his mechanical cannon, “Everyone! Prepare to close your eyes and cover your ears!” He warned them and everyone did as what he said. “Be reduced to smithereens Dark Entity! Maximum Energy Discharge: Light of Jupiter!” Steams came out of Zoroaster's cannon as it acquired a considerable amount of energy and right after, a beam of massive light directly burned the Nightbeast Dragon. Zoroaster took a toll on his mechanical chassis and the recoil made it worse. To top it off he was already damaged when they met him so it must have hard for him as he knelt down. “Is it dead?” Alice's legs were trembling from fright. “No... I did not expect this,” Zoroaster considered the recoil on his cannon. He can't believe that the Nightbeast Dragon's skin is so thick that it deflected his entire attack like it's nothing. “I should apologize I'm not in the condition to fight...” He punched the floor in disappointment to himself. Zoroaster is the sixth Heavenly Hero yet he can't bring down the enemy in front of him. The frustration of not having the power to defend those beside him is affecting his ego. Nevertheless, Xenon offered his hand and said, “We don't need protection. Can you still feel like that after you see him?” He pointed out where Laken is standing. Zoroaster widened his sensory eyes as he was astonished to the amounts of azure flames Laken is producing on his right arm. The level of the blue flames is so strong Zoroaster reckoned the heat is enough to melt everything it permeates within. What surprised him is the fact no matter how much he is burning, it only gives kind warmth to those in his vicinity. The Dark Entity growled instilling fear to cultists and low-level Nightbeast around. Laken never faltered. The moment he grasped the sword of the sinner, the intense azure flames gradually take over his form. “Laken! You must not be defeated by your darkness!” Luciella shouted from afar, surely Laken heard her call. He responded by waving his left hand. He slowly moved towards the Dark Entity as it prepares to breathe like the dragon it was, “I'm sorry Luciella...” Laken whispered. He let the darkness within him takes over, not because he lost hope, but to fulfill his promise to Alisa who was crying all alone amidst nothingness. The dragon abomination breathes pure dark fire directly at Laken, however, he willingly let himself be consumed by its flames. “No...!” Luciella wanted to be by his side when Eirisse reaches for her, “Trust in him.” “The flames of the heavens would never scorch me to death, and a mere dragon's flames is nothing!” Laken let his fire corrupt the dragon's breath. The more exceeding fervor he possesses, the brighter the fire he emits to the point he is not affected by any kind of fire. It was so intense that the Nightbeast Dragon started to burn when it touched his azure flames. The Dark Entity won't just idle and let itself be burned to crisp; it randomly swings its tail to assail Laken but he hastily dodges its attack. Laken took the initiative and leaped through its posterior. He gripped the handle of his sword to perform a descending strike, “Severe!” With sleight-of-hand, he skillfully rendered the Nightbeast Dragon's wings useless. It growls loudly from the pain it received. Laken leaped again directly at its shoulder to finish it once and for all, “Through the star's wishes no prayers, bring forth the flames of the skies: Heaven's Fall!” He swings his sword with everything he had. The grinding spark as the blade of the sword gashes on its neck through its scales is impeccable, perfectly detaching the dragon's head over the dead body. They were going to approach him when Laken jumped out of the falling head of the dragon and strikes his sword to the diamond crystal. “Laken! It's fine now–” Luciella reaches for him but Eirisse won't let it happen. “No! Laken is under his Metamorphosis. He will not stop until he shatters the diamond cage even if it cost his physical body. There are only two things that would ensue...” Eirisse drank mana potions before continuing. “What is it...?” Luciella asked worried what would follow. “It's either he destroys Alisa's cage, or his darkness takes the better of him,” Eirisse would never tell a lie. The clanking echoes as Laken's sword strikes to the lump of diamond reverberates around the chamber. They have no choice but to wait whether or not he wins against himself.
