Chapter 26 – Double Trouble

1476 Words
The turn of events favored Laken pretty badly. The little girl's sister found them before they could waste much more time. Though, the misunderstanding still hasn't fixed so Laken's just kind of waiting for her own sister to clear things as they should be. Laken thought he needs to stay away from them as possible because when her sister sneaks behind him, he couldn't tell the pressure of her malice. She has completely hidden her presence which is a skill only acquired through intensive training. “Wait, sister!” She pulled Laken's arm. She tried getting him off on her sister's claws. “Don't interfere Luna! I will make sure he will pay for what he did to you!” she retorted furiously. Her sister's serious to cut Laken's neck with her molten knife imbued with the flames only a draconian could breathe. The little girl held her sister's knife without hesitating. “Wait don't!” Laken forcefully settles everything before anyone gets hurt when he witnessed the molten dagger gradually enveloped in ice. The little girl he helped had an elemental affinity of ice. It was stronger than he thought. Not only the weapon of her sister froze but the statue and everything where she stands became frozen solid. “He helped me when I fainted from the outskirts... he also gave me warm fried squid and lemonade so... don't kill her Lena!” she confidently talked back to her sister. It appears her angry sister surmised that Laken isn't a bad guy. They draw too much attention, Laken decided to drag them both where they can talk things out. Laken rushed towards the east street of the plaza together with the sisters. He trailed his breath first before letting them down on a bench. Thinking back for a while, the sisters hug each other. He attentively examined them. He remembered something again from minutes ago soon after he overheard what the girls are talking about. “I'm sorry Lena... nature is calling me but I somehow ended in the outskirts.” little girl that Laken helped apologizes. “It's okay Luna. You're so clumsy you ended up outside of the city? I'm here now so don't worry.” her sister embraced her again. Laken unknowingly began to sweat. Because the Heavenly Heroes that they are supposed to search in the Dethrim Kingdom are both in front of Laken, giggling with each other. To top it off, he just helped one of them without even knowing who she is. He doesn't know what to do when he only just realized that they are what he seeks. That's why Laken seems to recognized Luna because of her magic signature. He only saw the silhouette of the sisters in the past but he didn't actually fight them before. It was the biggest blunder of Laken in his life. It also explains why Lena has such a cunning skill that got around of Revenant's instinct. The girl he helped which is Luna, had a very strong magic affinity of ice. They are both stronger than it seems. They are monsters in disguise that even fooled the Bloodless Revenant, which is what Laken thought to himself. “Oh, and this is the man who saved me from getting more frostbite. They let me on their carriage and a lady that was with them healed my bruises. He also had yummy squid on a stick in his bag,” Her bashfulness vanished when she's with her sister. “Uhm... I'm very sorry mister!” Lena apologizes while bowing down. “I don't know how can I repay your kindness to my sister... but forgive me first!” Lena begged for forgiveness. “No, don't mind it. I forgive you. I just wanted to ask your names...” Laken slipped a question. He wanted to be certain these little girls are of the league of Heavenly Heroes. He wanted to believe their names are just purely coincidence. Lena was willing to answer when her sister Luna covered her mouth. She pulls her behind the fish statue. They were whispering about things if they should give their name. Luna thinks he's a good guy while her sister thinks she had an obligation to tell her name since she's the one who acted rudely to him in the first place. Seconds later they have an agreement and they came back in front of Laken with a dignified aura. “I'm Lena Daphnel Pon–” Lena isn't even finished talking yet when Laken gave himself head-chopping thinking he is dreaming. But it's real and his guess that they are the Heavenly Heroes from Frozen Northlands and Volcanyon is legitimate. “Sorry for my rudeness I thought there's a bug in my head, you may continue,” Laken reasoned out. He wanted to get out of that place as soon as possible. “Uhm... then this shy sister of mine is Luna Daphnel Pon. I'm also sorry for the trouble she caused you,” Lena's stomach also rumbles in hunger. She blushes and averted her eyes. Her tail's restless wiggling left and right. Laken unhesitantly gave her two sticks of fried squid and a bottle of Lemonade. He must uphold his good side so that they won't discover the masked man in front of them is none other than the notorious wanted criminal on all lands. He is trying to be as careful as possible. He doesn't want to make the whole city of Frostwolf to become a blood ridden battlefield. There's no telling what would the outcome be if two Heavenly Heroes and a Revenant clash together. “This squid's so juicy! Thanks, mister!” Lena chuckled. He observed that Lena is the boisterous and wild type while her sister Luna is the opposite of her, bashful and submissive. “Well, look at the time, I guess I need to go back to my comrades because I'm excited to give them this fried squid,” Laken said in glee. He really is just winging the good guy facade up to this point. “We are also going now, see you around mister!” Lena waved at Laken. He thought it was finished already when Luna called out to him, “Mister...! Would you tell us your name too?” She asked. Laken doesn't know what to say. He froze before he could even take a step and he thought he couldn't just leave them behind without telling his name or else they'll be suspicious of him. He calmed himself first before telling them, “My name... is Ken. Goodbye!” He had no idea anymore he just removed the first syllable of his name and escaped from them to live and tell the tale. Good thing the sisters didn't ask more, is what Laken thought. But the wheel of destiny won't let Laken rest in harmony because the sisters are also going to the direction he is walking to. Which is towards the west where the coast is located. “Oh, Ken are you also boarding a ship perhaps? You don't look like a native,” Lena talked to him. “Y-Yeah, we'll board a ship to reach Arcadion,” Laken responded. Trying to diminish the possibility of conversation with them. “What a coincidence! We'll also go there to take care of some bu-business...” Lena stuttered as if she is hiding something. She's restless and her tail's wiggling up and down, “And this lemonade is good! I never had a lemon juice this good before.” Lena changed the subject. They are of the same boat as Laken determined she's hiding something. While Laken is keeping his identity concealed. The white mask is very handy so he's thankful to Dunkan and his wife. Together after minutes of walking, they arrive at the coast. The rest of them are off the carriage and are waving at Laken saying that they are fine. Laken's pace became faster than the sisters and he reaches out to Xenon behind Eirisse and Luciella. He whispered to Xenon, “No matter what happens or what you learn from here onwards, never act obviously and instead behave according to what we planned,” Laken told in all seriousness. “What plan? We don't have a plan, you dummy!” Xenon exclaimed in a silent expression. “We are traveling merchants from Pandora Corporation so make sure don't mess up,” he replied, and Xenon just kind of nodded. The sisters arrive at where they are. Luna modestly thanked Luciella and Eirisse again. Lena ascertained they are good people. They decided to formally introduce themselves. “I'm Lena Daphnel Pon, and this is my sister Luna Daphnel Pon, my twin sister. Thank you for taking care of her,” she bowed down for formality while stating gratitude. The rest of them couldn't believe what they heard. They gaped their mouth, slightly confused but a little bit sweating. Everyone was looking at Xenon in the most resentful way except for Luciella. They blame his navigation is broken. Xenon wanted to explain things as they are but he gave up since the sisters are here. They shouldn't give any slight idea there are three Revenants and six Shards of Creation in the presence of them. They realized that their decision to converse with them will decide the very fate of the Frostwolf City's peace. Of course, Laken apprehends what is the right decision before the snowy paradise turns into hell.
