Chapter 56 – Reshlinfeur Dungeon

The plan was to wait until twilight, and they certainly did and commenced what they planned. Before Sheria was left in Alice's mansion, she provided the exact coordinates of the underground dungeon. Xenon can translate the exact same location on his navigation map together with Alpha Core to return it to Zoroaster once they secured him. After Xenon showed the detailed place to Alice, it was located exactly at Reshlin Forest's south-west proximity, she did not waste time anymore and chanted her teleportation spell, “Aports!” In the blink of an eye, they were already at the threshold of the Midnight Pentagram's hideout. “Those bastards are using the historical dungeons as their hideouts,” Laken huffed. He was searching for any guards or any of sorts. “True, this is the Reshlinfeur Dungeon exactly named after the forest,” Alice told. She's checking anything from aerial vicinity if someone or anything is observing them using magic, it appears she assured there is none. “If you knew it already, why didn't you say so?” Laken asked. “I know it but not the location. If I told you there was a dungeon here I bet your party will go here with your carriage.” Alice argues. Laken couldn't respond since it's accurate. He's thinking it must be handy to have teleportation magic at your palms, but that would spoil the point of the adventure, but then again it's extraordinarily convenient. The dungeon has a layer of illusion magic which makes an image that there's nothing in the ground, but that doesn't work to Eirisse of course. She saw through it from the beginning simply undid such low-leveled magic and the underground passage revealed itself. Xenon sat near the entrance and tweaked a technomagic device in his arm. The stair to descend below is quite tight than the underground dungeon in Ravina. “It will take ten minutes or more depending on how deep the dungeon is. You may idle or be on guard for the moment while I'm scanning the entirety of it,” Xenon suggested and everyone went on guard. Laken notices Luciella was covering her ears, “Are you hurt anywhere? Do you feel something?” he is a bit worried. “Inside the dungeon... someone is calling... she was sad and alone.” Luciella murmured to herself. “What does that mean–” Laken hasn't finished talking yet when they were alarmed by the tremors in the ground. What welcomed them was a mob of Nightbeast that appeared out of nowhere surrounding them in an instant. “I think they're not here to let us in the dungeon aren't they?” Eirisse grinned revealing her deadly fangs and claws. The night is young and her bloodthirsty form is what fuels her desire to go berserk. Whenever Eirisse enters her Revenant Metamorphosis, she forgets that she's an archwizard who utilized the use of magic, instead, she only uses her vampiric abilities. “Hm... hawk and snakes in the form of Nightbeast bigger than a lion.” Laken reckoned his surroundings. “Eirisse and I will take care of the land-type Nightbeast. Luciella and Alice bring down the aerial-type.” Laken takes the command and they all initiated the battle to buy time for Xenon until he finishes his structural navigation map. “The lighting shall usher our might: Thunder Enchant!” Luciella chants her magic through her wand and the burst of lighting energy flowed through Eirisse's claws and Laken's sword. “Nice support Luciella!” Eirisse commended her. A single pounce on the Nightbeast Snakes has rendered it dead in a blink of an eye. Her claws were not just enchanted with lighting but it inherits the speed as well. “Severe!” Laken swings his heavy sword. He also doesn't need to use his azure flames to burn the crawling monster of an abomination for the thunder it brings is devastating. Laken was elated by how much Luciella has increased her magical affinity and able to use his spells in a favored situation. “Come on! Why my wand doesn't have thunder effect too?” Alice bickers. She continually fends off the Nightbeast Hawks trying to pounce and assault specifically Xenon at a range. “Sorry Alice, it only works on melee weapons.” Luciella apologizes like she always does while invoking Fireball on the flying Nightbeasts. “Nah, it's okay. Keep throwing projectiles!” Alice shouted and they were certainly being pushed back by the countless Nightbeast swarming the entrance. Laken takes a stance of a juggernaut. He steps back and held his sword tight accumulating the strength on his left leg, “Blighted Scorch!” He swings his sword in an upright strike producing azure flames to burn the monsters down. The only problem is no matter how much they can ward off the Nightbeasts. There are just too many of them, “Finish your thing already or I'll smack your head!” Eirisse threatens him. Xenon's gears could be heard. Laken figures he must have changed his attribute to be afraid of Eirisse so he can instinctively reanimate adrenaline rush. They defended him until he finally finished his task. Xenon jerked his arm to closed his technomagic equipment and he beckoned the rest, “I got the data saved on my memory chips. Follow me!” Alice chants her parting magic, “A star of the great conviction, bring upon the rage of heaven: Leo's Wrath!” The breath of pure stardust at the tips of Alice's finger produces a projectile to the wave of Nightbeasts before they entered the place one by one. “First we should go to an empty room I saw to confused the Nightbeasts.” Xenon suggested. They dashed through the hallways and luckily the path Xenon chose only has Nightbeasts and not the cultists. When they arrived at the room he is talking about, Laken immediately closed the opening made out of rocks. They all chased their breathing and take a break because they haven't conquered even half of the dungeon but they expended most of their stamina and mana from repelling off Nightbeasts. “Agh...” Eirisse sighed, “Now tell us what you got.” “Now listen here. This dungeon isn't that much bigger than the dungeon in Ravina, but there are things we need to consider before going deeper.” Xenon announced to them. They are hearing crunching sounds coming from the proximity that made them instinctively be in guard, “Oh? What is it that you discovered?” Alice is just munching the pocket cookies she brought before leaving the mansion earlier ago. “It was weird that the Nightbeasts assaulted us. What mostly weirded me out was these two dots.” Xenon showed his navigation map. His index finger is pointing out to the two green dots right below the dungeon's structure. “What are you implying?” Laken noticed one of the green dots is bigger than the other one. “When I scanned the entire dungeon, I only searched for Zoroaster's magic signature. It turns out the little green dot is truly his body. Now the question arises; what is the larger green dot?” Xenon asked them what he cannot answer. “It must be a trap.” Laken guesses. “No... I can hear the voice... deep inside the dungeon.” Luciella murmured to herself again. “You don't have any more data?” Eirisse considers. “There is no more data besides these two entities.” Xenon reciprocated. “Then what are you implying?” Alice just finished her early snacks and is back in the discussion. Everyone was silent at first. They were trying to guess what they should do until Xenon presumes, “I think they were literally luring us in. If they really wanted to stop us from entering the dungeon they could have assaulted us head-on.” “You're going to recommend another route or what?” Laken hinted. Xenon shook his head, “This is the quickest route since all the others have the same count of enemy encounter rate.” He assured that the path leads them to the location. They heard the footstep coming closer to where they are, “Now what should we do?” Alice panicked a little bit. “What else? Let us break through this and go directly,” Laken is fired up, he destroyed the door by plunging his sword. The cultists on the other side were surprised and were caught on the impact. “What about Barbaros? Argh! I don't care anymore!” Alice exclaimed while tailing the rest and rushing towards the deeper level of the dungeon. There's no telling for them what the great source of malefic energy in the underground chamber that even Luciella is reacting upon the voice coming from below. Laken will make sure there's no room for negotiation and will go for their initial objectives; assist Alice and continue to gather the rest of the shards.
