Chapter 23 – Magic Transporter

The party's about to depart from the Grayfrost Village when they faced a far bigger issue. Xenon went near the carriage and kicked the wheel, “Tell me guys, where's the horse?!” He complains. There's no horse to drag the carriage on the way. “The chief said that the horses from the Frostwolf City were requested. The incident in the valley has diminished the ones in the village.” Laken explains, “The chief tried to ask those that have one but they refuse,” he added. “This is actually a mind-breaking problem. I mean they gave us carriage but no one to pull it around?” Eirisse said in disappointment. “Now what do we do?” Xenon asked. He felt that the rest of them stares at him with an idea that shouldn't be appropriate but possible. “Hey, hey, what are you staring for?” Xenon is distressed, “Are you telling me I should be the one to drag it since I'm a mechanoid who doesn't get exhausted since I'm energy reliant?” He guesses and everyone nodded. Xenon buried his head in the snow when he hit the mark. “Please Xenon you're the only one who can do this,” Laken nudged Eirisse and is literally preventing himself from snickering together with her. He may be stern but he knows what's ironic or not. The idea of Xenon being the one who drags the carriage is somewhat mortifying for a mechanoid like him. “I'm one of the glorious mechanoid defenders of the Zargon Republic's Iron Fortress and you guys are telling me to drag a carriage because you want to?” Xenon is sobbing. The others nodded ironically except for Luciella. There's no way Luciella will feel better if one of her comrades is treated in such a way wherein Laken and Eirisse's just kind of kidding around. Luciella took it seriously, “I know for sure there's another way so that Xenon won't be forced,” Luciella spoke in consideration of what Xenon feels. The clanking metals in Xenon's chest changed phase, “Changing attribute: wise.” Xenon faced back and began to adjust something in his chest. The sounds of mechanical gears clanking to each other make the others worry. He faced the group again safe and sound with something in hand. He had a glowing metallic medal-like object that had two layers of magic circles on both sides. Laken raised his eye as if recognizing the thing Xenon holds. “I almost forgot this handy object. It's called a Magic Transporter. I don't want to say its scientific name since you won't understand but this magic device can copy any kind of transportation vehicle except large ones like a battleship.” Xenon explains to them. “Amazing! Why don't we try using it?” Eirisse asked in glee. She always shows great interest in technomagic because she's bored in studying a lot of normal spells. “It's a kind of device we mechanoids use if our energy levels went down to ten percent so that we can still have the energy to go back where we came from,” Xenon handed the device to Eirisse because she wanted to have a closer look. “Why didn't you informed us you have this kind of technomagic device? Then my feet won't be worn out during our quest in the Frostsiege Valley.” Eirisse grumpily complains. Pouting on him. Xenon shook his head and said, “The thing is, it's already low on energy. And it's powered by a considerable large amount of mana that's why it's just a piece of garbage now.” He tried to get the thing back but Eirisse refused. “Mana you said? Let me try something,” Eirisse presses the object using both her hands and uttered a language they had not to hear about. “...answer thee... Mana Spring.” Eirisse whispered as her last chant. The device began to shimmer and after a while, she gave it back on Xenon's palms. “Wait... It's fully charged?!” Xenon is surprised. He sees in the limiter it has enough mana to function. Eirisse modestly fixed the bridge of her eyeglasses and smirked, “No need to thank me.” She went in front of the carriage together with Luciella to see how does the device work up closer. “Now I need to place the device near the carriage and...” Xenon carefully placed his Magic Transporter on the snows. The equipment emitted red light lasers encompassing the carriage. The sound of the clanking gears and metals could be heard along with the blinding light. They all averted their eyes and the moment they looked back, what they witnessed is enough for Eirisse to jump ecstatically. “It's the same carriage! But what's with these ugly metal-like horses?” Eirisse complains. What revealed before their very eyes were the exact same replica of the carriage. The difference is it has mechanical horses that act like a real one. “Don't judge the design! This is one of the greatest technomagic in the Zargon Republic to the point other traders are going crazy to get this device on their hands. The problem is one of these costs billions, so they kind of gave up.” Xenon explains with some gestures. No one cared as the others are packing up the items and merchandise on the useless carriage to Xenon's Magic Transporter. “Now we are ready to depart.” Laken simply said. He was sitting next to Luciella on the right side of the carriage. Next to her was Eirisse that is taking care of the paper works and listing other stuff just in case they were suspected as a fake trader. “Remember you guys need to recharge this thing when you see that limiter below ten percent or else, we'll just be floating in naught.” Xenon said pointing out to the limiter with numerical indicator near the carriage's window. “Okay.” Eirisse simply agreed. Since it's Xenon's device, he's the one who's going to drive the thing. He scourged the two horses and it really sounds like a real one. Eirisse still doesn't like the design so she used illusion magic to at least make the horse abomination looks genuine. The three of them were amazed since the wooden part of the carriage and the metal parts are the exact same thing as the original. Such an impeccable technomagic actually does exist, is what they thought. Laken sat beside the coachman's seat, “Why did you lie it was a Magic Transporter?” Laken asked. He knew something about Xenon. “Well... there are things others shouldn't apprehend. They won't understand anyway...” Xenon told in a cold monotonic tone. “......” Laken doesn't know what to say so he just silenced himself and went back inside of the carriage to help Eirisse about the business side of their facade. It only took them minutes until they arrived at the Frostsiege Valley again. Luciella couldn't avert her eyes to the beautiful view of the glaciers of the mountain together with the majestic frozen rivers. She couldn't get enough of it. Until they eventually exited from the Frostsiege Valley. They went up north-east continuing their journey. “It's so cold...” Eirisse moaned shivering. Laken gave his cloak to warm her up, “Thanks–” She's going to thanks him when Laken instead embraced Luciella so she won't feel cold too. “I feel déjà vu and cheated,” Eirisse pouts. She prepped all the things and paperwork needed thanks to the original documents provided by the chief. After an hour of traveling, they've all mesmerized when they saw the famous ice walls of Frostwolf City. Xenon scourged the artificial horses to sprint towards the city when he slowly diminished the movement of the carriage when he saw something up ahead. “Laken here,” Xenon beckoned Laken for him to see it too, “Hmmm... she's...!” Laken unhesitantly leaps towards the object Xenon was talking about to see it up closer. What's lying on the cold snow was a little girl with some flashy pink mage garment. Her hair's white as the snow and her pink-red lips' dry, cracking because of extreme exposure of cold that might cause hypothermia. He's worried about her condition. Xenon halted the carriage and Laken decided to take the little girl with them.
