Chapter 12 – Voiceless Revenant

1380 Words
A flare of solar laser came crashing down to the earth as if the heaven smiting the sinners. Not just one, but a couple of random lasers strikes down not to target the Heavenly Heroes, but to destroy the core of the eighth magical circles that became the catalyst of Dimitri's Diosis Lunar Eclipse. The disoriented heroes assembled on the backline, forcing them to be wary of the person who is cunningly hidden from the sky waiting to strike for the perfect moment. “It can't be... I thought Zoroaster said the other one was on the Arcadion Continent?” Helenia asked in confusion. She plans to capture the two Revenants and it seems didn't work out when an unknown third party enters the fray. The creaking metal of platinum and steel filled the atmosphere when the unknown figure went to land in front of Laken bursting the vicinity. When the smoke vanished; a man revealed himself in the most impressive way, instilling awe unto the heroes. The man's body is made out of machinery from head to toe. His silver hair is swaying as he carries an enormous advance magic rifle. His race hails from the Zargon Republic, a mechanoid defender. “Xenon...?” Laken called the mechanoid defender's name. His head is a little bit hazy after escaping the imminent petrification. “Acquiring the target position. Accelerating Combustion Buster: Rider Mode.” Xenon's bodily structured changed form. His magic thrusters became wings. The rifle transforms into two daggers, while his heavy-looking metallic suit adapted to what seems designed for agile and air maneuvering. “Immediate change of plan! That's his rider mode, protect all of the shards you hold!” Sherkylle exclaimed informing his fellow Heavenly Hero but with the blink of an eye, a breath was not yet taken, Sherkylle's shard from his bow was missing already. “So fast...!” The astonished countenance of Sherkylle is priceless. He couldn't react to what is unseen. Xenon used his modeled suit to swiftly fly towards the Heavenly Heroes without making a contact nor getting caught. He got the shards they own. When the other Heavenly Heroes checked and examined where they have hidden the shards they possess, they didn't anticipate such turn of events. They were so infuriated when they discovered theirs was missing as well. The bewildered heroes refuse to accept that Xenon was fast enough to quickly gather the shards from them in an instant. “I-Impossible!” Helenia is about to command the party to continue pursuing the primary objective, which is to capture the Bloodless Revenant. However, what spells their total defeat is that Laken was nowhere to be seen on the battlefield. The house of Eirisse was purposely and completely annihilated by Xenon so that the Heavenly Heroes won't find any clue about their whereabouts. Along with Eirisse and Luciella, they all disappeared like the tint of a shadow looming around when the dawn arrives. There's no choice for them. The heroes retreated in defeat, and to top it off their shards were stolen by Xenon in just a matter of seconds. Meanwhile, Xenon flashing like lightning flew towards the west as he takes the three of them. He held Eirisse on her arms, while Laken and Luciella were being handled on Xenon's mechanical extended arms. They hovered below the stratosphere where you can see both the Arcadion and Exian continent in such a transcendent view, an experience Luciella might only see once in her life. Luciella witnessed the beauty of the clear blue horizon. She was above the sky she used to gaze upon on her tiny window when she was just a child. “Th-Thanks for saving us Xenon! I thought we were goners back there.” Eirisse gracefully thanked him. “Save the appreciation for later. I'm changing altitude, prepare for a forced landing.” Xenon warned them. He had no emotion or whatsoever. He masterfully held the three along with soft and almost-invisible wire keeping their body from balance. Avoiding haziness or vertigo while they descend to the lands. From the count of three to zero, Xenon slowly emerged from the troposphere and when they are below a good level of altitude where a forced landing won't burn the ladies' delicate skin, they descended. Although, Xenon will never hesitate to land without a short notice if it's just Laken he is carrying. Thankfully, they landed near a snowy mountain. No one was hurt as the snow is soft enough to cushion their grounding. The sunlight never reaches the gap through the mountains, nothing shined except the calming glacial. The region's season is currently winter or more likely it's the only season it had. “Decelerating Combustion Buster: Normal Mode.” The light inside the chest of Xenon started to sound like creaking gears of a clock, it stopped abruptly. “I thought we'd land on Millennium Shore's sea. We're lucky since Xenon is bad at landing.” Laken imply. He's not complaining or whatsoever, he's just glad everyone is safe. “Changing attribute: honest.” Xenon said in a monotonic voice. They all looked onto him when they heard again the creaking noise of metal transforming in his chest emitting a dim light of energy. “Here we go. Just bear with his non-stop blathering.” Eirisse covered her ears and Laken sighed because he knows what would happen next. Luciella's just tilted her head in wonder. “Oh my god! I'm so scared we almost died! Those Heavenly Heroes were scary as heck, how did you guys gather five of them? Had not I used my rider form, maybe I'll be dead meat like you guys.” The sudden change of Xenon's emotions made Luciella felt perplexed and uncomfortable. “Sorry for the late introduction; I'm Xenon Genesis, the hundredth mechanoid defender chassis designed primarily for aerial combat. But I also excel at land combat. Also known as the Voiceless Revenant.” Xenon introduces himself in a traditional mechanoid defender salute in front of Luciella. The salute signifies the highest form of respect towards another. “The name's Luciella, nice to meet you too.” She also told her name. “Thanks for helping us...” Luciella meekly thanked him. She's still uncomfortable with Xenon's unpredictable manner. “But seriously! There's no way we can defeat them into that condition. They even invoked Dimitri's Diosis Lunar Eclipse spell that completely destroyed the great beast of the Astral Kingdom's most prominent summoner. We're lucky my weapon, gathered enough solar energy to stop the petrification.” Xenon explained. He talks too fast and the worst part is that he never gets tired since he's a mechanoid. The party walked into the snowy terrain. A village is visible on the distance, sadly it's still far away. Xenon also had no energy to fly and his armor suit is on hibernate mode. There's also no sun to gather solar energy. He's in no condition to do what he can. “Here, you'll catch a cold.” Laken gave his white cape on Eirisse to keep her from getting unnecessary flu. “Aren't you going to give this to Luciella?” The moment Eirisse asked, she regrets it as Laken instead held and snug Luciella closer to him. To keep her warm through body contact. “Did you say something?” Laken's too oblivious to discern what point would he miss, “I feel cheated,” Eirisse sobbed. She grumpily crossed her arms. “Combustion buster?” Luciella asked. The excited Xenon turned his persona switch to a different one again. “Changing attribute: excited.” There's little energy he had left but uses it on trivial things. Nevertheless, that's what shapes up the character of Xenon. “You mean this cool weapon? Isn't this amazing! This Arcanum Core in my chest is connected to my weapon externally, I named this Combustion Buster: Stargazer. Because... you know, it's kinda cool. Also, this core is the one responsible for giving me life, as well as the ability to change my personality.” Xenon expounded. Luciella gaped her mouth in astonishment. She couldn't believe there is such technomagic that had the ability to give life on machines. The life Luciella had taken made her think that there are wonderful things in the world she had not discovered. The thrill of not knowing amazing things inspired Luciella more than anyone. The happiness she had is the exact same thing when Laken started his adventures, which is what Laken thought when she felt the warmth of her smile. Laken also remembered the weight of protecting her joyful expression. He never forgets the mistake he did in the past. His party now head towards villages located at the southern part of the Frozen Northlands. A place that always snows no matter the season comes about.
