7 Vesper In the middle of the night, Vesper’s phone started blaring. She sat up, blinking into the TV-lit twilight of her bedroom, then leaned over to grope the night stand for her phone. She’d fallen asleep watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which was her all-time favorite show. She’d seen all the episodes so many times that watching just a few minutes of Sarah Michelle Gellar kicking vampire ass felt like getting a really warm, familiar hug. She glanced at her phone screen, which was entirely blank.
