Thompson drove me to the apartment I'd shared with Damon, parking outside the building with clear reluctance to let me go in alone.
"Are you certain you want to do this?" he asked, his hand still resting on the steering wheel. "You don't owe him a private conversation."
"I know," I said, already reaching for the door handle. "But I want to make my position absolutely clear before we're in front of the council. So, there is no room for him to claim misunderstandings or ask for delays."
Thompson's jaw tightened, but he nodded. "I'll wait here. If you're not out in fifteen minutes, I'm coming in."
