Kira's pov
"Kira, a word?" Ryker gestured toward his office.
I nodded and followed him, leaving the Thornwoods standing in shocked silence in the waiting area.
As soon as the door closed, cutting off the sound of Margaret's protests, Ryker moved to his desk and gestured for me to sit.
"They don't deserve you," he said bluntly. "I've known you since you were a pup, Kira. Your parents would never have wanted to see you treated this way."
My throat tightened. "I know."
"Are the dissolution rumors true?" he asked gently.
I nodded. "The waiting period ends in a few days and it'll be official."
"Good." His voice was firm. "That kind of pack doesn't deserve you. You were your parents' pride, Kira. Everything they sacrificed, everything they built, it was for you and your brother."
