Chapter 1

1055 Words
Lotus POV~~ I wake up in a cold sweat early the day of my birthday. I've been having these dreams for a week. Always running; always a wolf. But I've never gotten that far. "That was strange," I think, rubbing my face and sitting up. I've never seen the waterfall before; never seen who was chasing me until now. I pull out my journal that I started keeping next to my bed on my nightstand. After writing everything down, I take a big stretch and pick up the clothes I'd laid out for my birthday the day before. Taking a hot shower wakes me the rest of the way up, and I head downstairs. As long as I can remember, I've been in the foster system. Everyone who ever thought about adopting me seemed to either have an unrational fear of me or something bad would end up happening to them. But today was my last day here. The state would help me find an apartment I can live in alone, finally, and I'd be able to go to college. I'd gotten a job at 15 and started saving immediately. I wanted to take care of myself. "Lo-Lo!" One of the younger girls in the group home sprung off the couch as I came down the stairs. The small girl had been taken away from her parents a few months ago; drug abusive parents, it seems. "Shyla! Good morning, sweetie!" I lean down to catch her in a comforting hug. With what she's been through, her nightmares are frequent. The small blonde haired girl looks up at me with her bright blue eyes briming with tears. "Why do you have to leave? Can't you stay here with me forever?" She'd become quite attached to me the last few weeks, and I felt guilty leaving her here. But I was an adult now, and that means I'm not allowed to stay in a group home any longer. "I'm sorry, Shy. I'm not allowed to stay anymore. You know that. It's the rules of the home." Burying her head into my stomach, I feel a tiny sob shake her body. "I know. I'm just going to miss you bunches." "I'm going to miss you too. But I can still come visit you," that seemed to bring her mood up a bit as she wipes away her tears. "You promise?" "I promise," giving her another squeeze, I pull away and start leading her to the dining hall. Breakfast should be starting soon. The poor girl was so small when she got here. Her parents probably neglected to feed her, instead using the money they had to buy whatever it was they were using. A sadness gripped my chest as we walked. I was truly going to miss this poor little girl. ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ Antonio POV~~ "TONYYYYYY," one of my sisters screams down the hall of the pack house at me. Rolling over in bed, I look at the clock. It's 8:30. "s**t, we slept late," I think to my wolf, Kai. I feel him yawn and stretch at the same time I do. "Well, we were out late running, so it makes sense." I roll my eyes at his snide remark and drag myself out of bed. Getting dressed to go into the human world later today, I prepare for the annoyingness of my siblings. I'm 20 and still haven't found my Mate, so they take every chance they get to rub it in my face. As soon as I find her, I'll be named Alpha, so they really should be careful. Kai chuckles at the thought. "We could always beat them in a spar. Or just throw them off the cliff." The cliff on our pack lands that Kai was talking about had a 55-foot drop with a waterfall. Some of the teenagers liked to dare each other to jump down the waterfall. I remember when my siblings and I did it. It's like a right of passage. "Antonio Dwayne Willows, come downstairs and eat your breakfast." I hear my mom's voice through the mind link and know that I need to listen. If I don't, she'll come in my room, grab me by the ear, and drag me down the stairs herself. "Sorry, mom. I'm on my way." I quickly fonish getting dressed and hurry down the hall. My younger brother, Sebastian, comes out of his room as I'm passing by. He's 2 years younger than me and has found his mate. She trails shortly behind him. "Hey, Seb. Leah." I nod in her direction as Sebastian smirks at me. "Don't go getting any ideas there, bro. She's mine. Maybe you'll find yourself a mate soon." He thinks he's so funny. I roll my eyes at him as I notice Leah's face turn a brilliant red. "I know better. And I will find my Mate. it's just a matter of when and where." Slapping him on the back, at little harder than friendly, I continue down the hall. I hear his chortling laugh, and their footsteps follow behind me. "Antonio." My mom calls again as I'm reaching the dining room door. I smirk as I push the door open and reply. "Yes, mom?" I smile wider and plant a kiss on her cheek. "Tony! You're finally up! Now hurry up and eat so I can go dress shopping!" My younger sisters are both at the table with clean plates. We're hosting a large party in hopes that I'll meet my mate. I'm hiding it very well, but I'm actually quite nervous. I keep imagining what she'll look like. Kai keeps adding leud remarks every time I come up with an image. "Like how she'll look when she's naked? Or maybe how sexy it'll be to watch her shift?" He prances tauntingly in my mind. "Tony, you should eat, son. It's going to be a big night, and you'll want your strength." My dad, always trying to be the voice of reason. He is the alpha, so it makes sense. He's the only one I've told about being nervous. He was too before he met my mom. "Right as always, dad." I tip an imaginary hat to him and sit down to eat as my sisters begin squeeling with excitement. It is going to be a long day.
