CHAPTER 3

Richard picked up himself and vowed that nothing will stop him from fulfilling his destiny, not even Mabel or his past. He will have to live with what is happening at his workplace and also concentrate on his dream of becoming a success in his field.

He mapped out his plan towards achieving this dream and find out he has to enroll to take the Tiger's College scholarship application test. It's only when he partakes in the test, that's when he can be considered for the scholarship opportunity. So he begins to think about what his next move will be.

Things were going smoothly between Mabel and Mason. Mason has more than enough money to take care of her compared to Richard, who was struggling to fulfill his dreams and ambition. Mabel was glad about her newfound lover, she now has whatever she desired from him because Mason is very rich.

Mason! I would like to have my salon, said Mabel. Don't you want to stay with me again, my love? This place is good for you and me. I can make you the manager if you want. We can accomplish things together. I can even make you my business partner if you like it. No babe, I don't want all of this. You deserve to be great, you can handle this on your own replied Mabel. It has always been my dream to own a salon, I believe this is the right time for me to have one. Don't forget, I would still be coming here every night to meet you because I truly love you and you are my life, Mabel assures Mason.

Mason was happy and felt relieved with those responses from Mabel. He asked her, when will you be opening your salon? Tomorrow is not too late, she replied. The two lovers left the lounge in search of a location for the salon. The criteria must be a place not too far from Mabel's house and the lounge, probably a place between the two locations.

After about three hours, they found a location that was a 5-minute drive from the lounge. Mason wants to keep Mabel closer to him because of the love he has for her. They rented the shop and stocked it with attachments, cosmetics, and other things. Just to make the shop attractive for the customers to come and patronize Mabel.

Mabel became a salon owner while Richard continue with his artwork and as a barman. He began to exploit ways to buy the scholarship test application form.

Dinner's lounge deals with money exchange. They help customer exchange their money for local currency.

On this particular day, Mason was busy having fun with Mabel. When Richard approached him to inform him about a particular man that wants to do a money exchange. He gave Richard the key and told him to count the money very well before giving it to the customer, he nodded his head in response to Mason.

The room was lit with blue bulbs. Opening the door, this place seems different, Richard muttered those words under his breath. Turning towards the large transparent locker, he found huge sums of money and he gulped immediately. He stood muted, not knowing the next course of action to take. He seriously needs money for the test, is this the way to be favored by God? He thought to himself as he moves towards the locker.

He opened the key and took the amount needed to give the customer for money exchange. He was already on his way when he suddenly paused and said, it's just the remaining three days left before the closure of the test fee. If I don't get it between tomorrow and the next, I'm going to miss the scholarship test. This is the only means I can get the $500 needed for this test form. He turned back and move towards the locker, he picked up just $500 only and placed it inside his trouser pocket.

After giving, the man his change. He continue with his work and pretended as though nothing happen. He continues with his duty at work, for the remainder of the day

First thing tomorrow morning, he rushed down to Tiger's College and headed straight to the secretary's office. This is Richard's second time coming to the school, so he knows the way around there. He headed straight to the secretary's office to purchase his form. The woman recognized him and said, were you, not the one that was pissed off the other day about the test application fee? He replied and said yes, I am the one. Why the change of mind then? This is the only means to achieving my dreams and potential.

She handed over the application slips to him and told him the test date. Richard thanked her as he collected his slip and leave. He was glad and over the moon. The test is never an issue with Richard because he was an intelligent student right from secondary school.

He rushed down to deliver a picture frame to a customer. When he got there, he had a group of young guys discussing the test. He waited and eavesdropped on what was been said.

Richard discovers that there's a past question for the test, he hurriedly went to his saving to take the sum of money to purchase the form. Richard has a small cupboard where he keeps his money after being paid for his artwork.

The test day eventually arrives Richard is prepared and expectant just like every other student coming for the test. He got there early and finished his test before the stipulated time for the test. Most of the questions asked were familiar to Richard, so he was all smiles going home. He was confident that he will be shortlisted for the scholarship. Tiger's College promised to communicate to the shortlisted candidates via email or they will see on television, radio, or newspaper.

He continues with his artistic work, painting and drawing for people. That was how he earn his money.

He received a call from Taylor to inform him, that his name Richard Douglas was among the beneficiary of Tiger's College scholarship opportunity. He could not believe his ears, he check his email immediately and discovered, he made the top ten list. Richard was over joyous, he could not contain his happiness as he dialed his mom's number.

Mum I just got a fully-funded scholarship opportunity to study at Tiger's College. He told his sister the same thing too. He was glad, his dream school is now a reality to him.

He went to the school for registration and fill the necessary details. Everything he will need to begin the session was given to him.

Tiger's College announced the name of the student that got the prestigious scholarship during the annual ceremony, the school usually holds with the student. Richard was honored as number one on the list with 95%, which was remarkable. He received the award and went to sit down.

Mr. Edwin came up to address the new student and also remind the stalite about the standard of the school. When he was done, he called on Reece Vivian to come up and address her colleague.

Vivian was a beautiful lady with long, flowing brunette hair and sparkling green eyes. Her skin was soft and smooth, and she had a warm, radiant smile that lit up her entire face. She was tall and slender, with curves in all the right places, and she had a grace and poise about her that was simply mesmerizing.

Richard was immediately struck by Vivian's beauty as soon as he saw her. He couldn't help but stare in amazement, unable to believe that someone could be so stunningly gorgeous. He found himself drawn to her like a moth to a flame, and he couldn't help but feel his heart skip a beat every time she walked into the room.

Richard asks the person sitting close to him, who is that? He replied She is Reece Vivian popularly known as (RV). She is Mr. John Reece's, daughter. Do you mean the billionaire daughter, Richard asked. He nodded in affirmation. He could not imagine attending the same school with a reputable man's daughter. Everyone here is rich, he concluded...

Vivian, went up the stage to address her colleague. She was intelligent and articulate in her speech, with a sharp wit and a quick smile. Richard was impressed with her speech. Despite her beauty, however, she was also known for being bossy and demanding. She always knew exactly what she wanted and wasn't afraid to let others know it.

It was the first day of the fall semester at Tiger's College and Richard was feeling a mix of excitement and nerves as he walked to her first class.

As he entered the lecture hall, he was struck by how big it was. There were rows and rows of seats, all filled with upperclassmen who seemed to know exactly what they were doing. Richard found a seat towards the back and settled in, pulling out his notebook and pen.

The professor, a middle-aged man with graying hair, began the lecture by introducing himself and going over the syllabus for the class. Richard tried to take diligent notes, but she found it hard to keep up with the professor's rapid pace.

Richard turned to his left-hand side and saw Vivian concentrating and paying rapt attention to the lecturer. He decided to make a sketch portrait of Vivian in his note. A lady observe the way Richard was looking at Vivian and immediately after the class, went to meet him and asked do you like her? He feign ignorance and asked, who are you talking about? She said Vivian and he replied no.

My name is Sarah and you are? I'm Richard. I saw you drawing Vivian during the class, she asked on their way out of the class. Yes, I was because I couldn't keep up with the pace of the professor, and they both laughed. Richard showed Sarah the art portrait of Vivian. You are a good artist, she said. I'll take that as a compliment.

Back at home, Mason was at Richard's house. He already held Kate and Ella hostage, they were to call Richard to come home immediately. They were both afraid and in tears with the ammunition in Mason's gang hand.

Richard hurriedly came home, immediately he opened the door, he was hit down by one of Mason's gang. Mason looked at him with a grievous smile and said, you think you are wise right? Do you think we will have a money locker and not put a tracker there, Richard was already shaking at this point. He knows he was doomed. You took my money and enroll I'm Tiger's College, so you think you are smart? Smart kid, he punched his face. Kate and Ella were crying and begging for Mason's mercy. Kate knows how dangerous Mason is, he could die and not feel any sympathy for what he did. He hit Richard with another punch and this time around, he collapse as they took him along to their den.

Could this be the end of the road for Richard? Will Richard survive this? Are all his dream now a thing of the past?
